Job summary

We are looking for a qualified NMP with a keen interestin supporting people who are experiencing problematic alcohol or drug use, tojoin our integrated substance misuse service in the London Borough of Redbridge.

Whether you are highly experienced or new to thesector, this role will provide you with significant scope for growth andinnovation within a supportive and friendly multidisciplinary team of clinicaland non-clinical professionals, as well as Vias Central Clinical Leads.

The main purpose of this role is to provide excellent quality of clinical care to service users accessing treatment with us, improving their health and outcomes in their recovery.

Main duties of the job

Responsibilities will include the following:

To clinically assess and initiate prescribing for newservice users who are seeking opiate substitution therapy (Methadone, Espranor,Buvidal), ensuring responsive and timely initiation of prescribing.

To clinically assess service users who are alcoholdependent for their suitability for an on-site ambulatory (community)detoxification, and to support the nursing team during ambulatory detoxes, andwith relapse prevention prescribing (, Acamprosate).

To support effective continuity-of-care prescribingfrom prisons and inpatient settings.

To conduct regular clinical reviews in line withbest practice guidelines.

To encourage service users to consider OSTreduction plans, OST community detoxes within our Recovery Hub, and inpatientOST detoxification.

To routinely offer harm reduction advice andinformation including overdose prevention and naloxone, to help service users takean informed approach to their treatment, such as through recommending the SODAtool, and maintaining a recovery focus.

To support the multidisciplinary team of recoverypractitioners, volunteers, and apprentices to have a greater awareness andunderstanding of clinical factors and decision making to support holistictreatment planning and risk assessment.

To attend and chair the weekly MDTs, and Viasweekly Central Clinical Meeting.

About us

The role is predominantly based at our main hub in IlfordChambers, 11 Chapel Road, Ilford IG1 2DR but the role could involve occasional travelto external meetings and satellites within the borough, and to other Vialocations as needed.

Our usual hours of service are Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm,with one late clinic on a Tuesday that colleagues cover in rotation.

RolePurpose

Todeliver excellent drug and alcohol services to those who use our services andtheir significant others, including family members, friends and carers, tofacilitate positive outcomes. Toprovide safe, effective and evidence based clinical, prescribed, interventionsfor people requiring stabilisation, detoxification and other clinical supportneeds in relation to their substance use, including but not exclusively opiateand alcohol users. Delivergeneral health care support, including Wound Care, ECGs, healthcareassessments, and other similar activity.

Keyduties and activities of the role

Providehigh quality, person centred, low threshold services, responding to theindividual and diverse needs and preferences of our service users and theirsignificant others. Deliverevidence-based clinical interventions as part of an effectively integrated carepackage. Take an assertive approach to service user disengagement. Undertakebasic life support/ anaphylaxis training so you are confident and competent tomanage a medical emergency including the administration of emergency drugs. Whererelevant, provide clinical management supervision for junior staff, supportingprofessional development through supervision and appraisal. Including chairing local MDT, and otherrelevant, meetings. Deliverharm reduction advice, guidance and education. To include blood borne virusinterventions (screening, vaccination and treatment access), overdosepreventionincluding naloxone programmes, and facilitated signpostingand referral to partner services, including primary care. Proactivelyreview and manage clinical treatment plans of the service user. Workin partnership with Hospitals, GPs, the criminal justice system, and anyother relevant stakeholders to provideseamless and holistic care packages for service users. Encourageservice users to access education and employment services and health, wellbeingand recovery support activities and to signpost to other available services. Supportstudents, volunteers, peer mentors and service user representatives to take anactive part in Via services. Identifyand assess suitability of service users for in-patient alcohol and opioiddetoxification as appropriate. Identifyrisks and take appropriate action in accordance with local, national andorganisational Safeguarding policies, contributing to multi-disciplinary reviewmeetings. Maintainaccurate and timely records using the designated case management system incompliance with Via Information Governance policies and procedures. Workflexibly, including across multiple sites and peripatetically when required. Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Registered nurse (RMN, RGN or Learning Disabilities Nurse) with a current active PIN number and appropriate Non-Medical Prescribing Accreditation.

Experience

Essential

Passion for and understanding of working with substance misuse services or with other socially excluded or vulnerable groups. With a proven ability to meet deadlines, record information accurately and in a timely way and to work calmly under pressure. Great team working, communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrating a highly cooperative approach to supporting colleagues and the whole team to deliver Service objectives, as well as in working directly with service users and their significant others. Demonstrable ability to deliver an excellent quality level of service to people with complex needs. This includes the ability to complete assessments, care and support plans, risk assessments and to complete case recording to a high standard and in a timely way. Good IT skills including use of Microsoft Office programs and digital meeting platforms and Case Management Systems like Nebula, System One or Theseus. A demonstrable understanding of the Health and Social Care regulatory requirements of the Care Quality Commission (CQC), National Institute for Clinical Excellence standards for Health and Social Care and any other relevant bodies. Demonstrable commitment to working in partnership with other professionals such as criminal justice agencies, community groups and other stakeholders to achieve good outcomes for our service users. The ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, in different settings ( written, spoken, presented, etc) and to different groups of people.
