The Lead Radiographer for Imaging will be managerially and professionally responsible for the leadership and clinical effectiveness of all the Imaging staff within the Radiology /Imaging Directorate, The Lead Radiographer for Imaging will be an integral member of the radiology/Imaging management team, and will work closely with the Head of Service, General Manager for Imaging and the Clinical Director for Radiology/Imaging The Lead for Imaging will be expected to provide effective clinical leadership in conjunction with the Modality Leads and Heads of Department and will be supported with business and operational matters by the radiology/Imaging management Team.
The post-holder will be responsible for the development and delivery of clinical and professional standards, delivery of safe and high quality care, ensuring & transforming safe, effective and seamless pathways for patients, and will lead on the modernisation of the workforce including advanced practice. As part of the senior management team, the post-holder will be responsible for supporting business planning, leading workforce planning and maximising service opportunities and potential.
This will be in line with agreed objectives, targets, quality standards, resource controls and constraints and will contribute to delivering the management strategy of patient services within the care group.
The post holder may in time be expected to cover all UHSussex sites.
Main duties of the job
·To personally adhere to and uphold the HCPC Professional Code of Conduct at all times.
·To support the development of and promote the Trust’s mission, values, aims and objectives.
·To provide clinical leadership to the imaging radiographers, acting as a role model for best practice. Ensuring that poor clinical leadership is identified, challenged and improved and that the care is provided to a high standard. This will involve working clinically on a regular basis.
·To provide senior professional leadership, motivation and supervision to all the Imaging clinical staff within the CDG.
·To provide operational and high level expert advanced practice leadership, clinical advice, teaching, research, mentorship and support for staff in relation to all aspects of Imaging.
·To provide professional support to the Q&S team and IRMER lead
·To work in partnership with the Associate Director of Nursing / Director of AHPs, the General Manager and Corporate colleagues to implement the annual CDG workforce plan which integrates with the local service development plans.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
·In conjunction with the General Manager and Head of Imaging / Director of AHPs, to ensure the continued development of clinical practice within the imaging directorate to take account of research and development within the framework of the Nursing Midwifery and AHP strategy
·To be responsible for the development and implementation of policies relating specifically to the department and for the production of any other policies as requested by the Clinical Director.
·In conjunction with the General Manager, to ensure that all AHP / Nursing staff and support staff have access to achieve their ongoing CPD. Through the Sub-Speciality Leads, to ensure that all Diagnostic Imaging staff and support staff have an appraisal and PDP in place and that all registered staff ae revalidated in line with the HCPC / NMC requirements.
·Working with corporate education and training department, to contribute to the education plan for the Imaging staff in order to inform the education commissioning process.
·To identify areas for audit, producing an annual plan of delivery, ensuring that outcomes are used to develop best practice in the Trust.
·To support staff in promoting research and identifying and applying research finding to specialist and advanced Diagnostic Imaging /Nursing practice.
·To ensure that all registered staff within the CDG have undertaken revalidation and have a viable registration.
Risk Management and Quality
·To work closely with the General Manager, Clinical Director and Divisional Clinical Governance lead, as well as imaging colleagues across the trust, to develop an integrated strategy for clinical governance, with a specific focus on all aspects of clinical and non-clinical risk management.
·To ensure the Trust risk register is up to date and accurate. To work closely with the Divisional and Corporate Governance Teams to ensure that there are systems in place to identify, report and manage risk taking action and monitoring in accordance with legislation.
·To lead on complaints, quality alerts and Adverse Clinical Incidents for the CDG, ensuring that comprehensive and robust investigations are undertaken in a timely manner. To also ensure that learning from these AIs’s/quality alerts/complaints is translated into improvements in patient care/experience.
·To ensure that harmful care attributable to the Imaging Dept is identified, reported and monitored according to Trust policy including presentation following RCA at the Trust’s SI Panel
·In conjunction with the Radiation Protection and Nuclear Medicine Senior Team, to ensure that the Imaging meets its regulatory and quality requirements
·In conjunction with the Radiation Protection and Nuclear Medicine Senior Team, to lead on the preparation for MHRA / HSE / CQC Inspections, and to lead on any actions required as a result of this.
General
·To personally adhere to and uphold the HCPC Professional Code of Conduct at all times.
·The post holder has a general duty of care for their own health, safety and well-being and that of work colleagues, visitors and patients within the hospital, in addition to any specific risk management or clinical governance accountability associated with this post.

·To participate in the Trust Manager on Call Rota as required.
·To observe and maintain strict confidentiality of personal information relating to patients and staff.

·The post holder has an important responsibility for and contribution to infection control requirements are set out in the National Code of Practice on Infection Control and in local policies and procedures which will be made clear during your induction and subsequent refresher training. These standards must be strictly complied with at all times.
·To ensure that the department is fully aware of Trust Child Protection Procedures, and that strategies and plans are in place across the care group to accurate identify children and vulnerable adults at risk of abuse
·As an NHS manager, you are expected to follow the code of conduct for NHS managers (October 2002).
·If you have responsibility for a budget, you are expected to operate within this and under the Trust’s standing financial instructions (available on the Intranet site) at all times.

·To conduct annual Performance Development Reviews, incorporating talent management reviews (if applicable) and progress reviews for staff in your charge and, through this process, identify and facilitate development opportunities to improve the performance of the individual and the Trust.
·Ensure training and development needs identified in the individual’s personal development plan are followed up and assist staff to identify their development needs and to promote a learning culture.
·Ensure that Departmental Induction training and all necessary training to meet health and safety and statutory requirements is in place and is appropriately reviewed.
·All staff have a responsibility to contribute to a reduction in the Trust's carbon footprint and should pro-actively reduce and encourage others through own actions to reduce their contribution to carbon emissions. This includes switching off electrical appliances that are not in use, turning down heating, closing windows, switching off lights and reporting carbon waste etc.
