What You’ll Be Doing

Storyful’s newsroom has been working at the intersection of social media, news and technology to help media organisations tell the stories that matter most. As we expand the breadth and depth of our coverage, we are seeking an experienced news journalist to join our editorial team in London.

The ideal candidate will have a track record of finding compelling video-led stories via social media, and of producing original reporting that uses cutting-edge verification and open-source intelligence techniques.

They will be at home in a fast-paced, breaking news environment, and able to serve a diverse set of media clients. They will be comfortable working on a range of stories, from conflict zones, to weather events, and politics. They will be as capable of reporting on light-hearted viral videos as they are reporting on hard news.

Responsibilities

• Monitoring Storyful’s news feeds for emerging original content and undertaking advanced searches using our proprietary tools

• Gathering and verifying images, posts, videos and other content from social media

• Writing clean, concise and accurate copy to deadline for publication on the Storyful Newswire

• Identifying, contacting, and interviewing uploaders and sources involved in stories

• Working to clear or to license videos for client use

• Identifying opportunities for long-form research projects and pitching bespoke work to clients 

• Collaborating with colleagues and other teams on stories

• Working closely with newsroom clients and content creators

• Flexibility to work various shifts as needed, including some weekends

• Any other duties set out by editorial management team

Required Experience & Qualifications

• Experience in journalism, particularly online or broadcast journalism

• A self-starting journalist who is plugged into current events around the world

• A fluid, natural communicator who has experience writing and editing copy for publication. All finalists will be administered a copy test.

• Expert understanding of social media platforms such as TikTok, Facebook, Reddit, X, YouTube, Telegram, etc.

• Experience of video verification and a track record of using it in reporting is an advantage

• Ability to source and verify original content from across the social web

Preferred Skills & Knowledge

• Foreign-language skills a major advantage, though not essential

• Video-editing skills are an advantage, but not required

Work Arrangement 

• Hybrid - a minimum of three days per week in the London office
