Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a committed individual to join the Microbiology Department as part of Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
This post forms part of a team of Consultant Microbiologists responsible for providing Medical Microbiology services for the Trust, including dealing with clinical enquiries, antibiotic stewardship, MDT involvement, laboratory microbiology and infection prevention.
The Laboratory services are accredited to ISO:15189
Main duties of the job
You will be expected to work with local managers and professional colleagues in the efficient running of services. The appointee will also work closely with other service providers such as the Biomedical Scientists, Infection Prevention Nurses and Antibiotics Pharmacists in the day-to-day provision of an efficient and effective Microbiology and Infection Prevention service in Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
There are a number of regular departmental meetings that oversee the various aspects of laboratory which the Consultants attend. The appointee will take an active role in matters of Clinical Governance including audit and training that relate to the laboratory and clinical activities of the Microbiology Department.
The Consultant Microbiologists usually provide prospective cover for each other in emergency clinical and infection control duties in each other's absence.

MBBS or equivalent FRCPath-2 in Microbiology Full registration (and a licence to practice) with the General Medical Council (GMC) Applicants that are UK trained must be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview Applicants that are non-UK trained will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT
