GSL Education is actively looking for an ASD Teaching Assistant - Primary to join vibrant and supportive client primary schools in Ashington. The schools are dedicated to creating a nurturing space where students with ASD can thrive.This is a fantastic chance to make a real difference in the lives of our pupils in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.

Job Summary:

As an ASD Teaching Assistant- Primary, you will play a significant role in providing dedicated support and helping children with ASD thrive in a safe and inclusive learning environment. You will work closely with teachers to create engaging and interactive lessons tailored to the needs of each student.

Job Responsibilities of an ASD Teaching Assistant - Primary:  

  • Offer one-to-one or small group support for Primary school students with ASD, facilitating their access to the curriculum.
  • Assist the class teacher in creating and implementing tailored learning plans.
  • Establish and maintain a structured, supportive classroom environment that fosters academic and social growth for students with ASD.
  • Promote and implement positive behaviour interactions management strategies.
  • Work collaboratively with the SEN team to ensure the best outcomes for students with ASD.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and customized strategies to enhance the learning experience for students with ASD.

Qualifications for ASD Teaching Assistant - Primary:

  • Teaching assistant qualification or training in special education, childcare is preferred.
  • Previous experience as an ASD Teaching Assistant or similar role, ideally in a primary school setting is desirable.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder and its impact on learning.
  • Proactivity, resilience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting children with special educational needs.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
  • A commitment to helping these students achieve their full potential and willingness to contribute to the school's overall mission and values.
