We are seeking to appoint a Governance Lead for Cardiac Surgery for internal applicants only. This is an additional responsibility with a paid responsibility allowance. The successful candidate will co-lead on Cardiothoracic Surgery governance and will play a key role in responding to complaints, investigating incidents & maintaining quality in cardiac surgery services.

Main duties of the job

·Managing clinical incidents reported via the DATIX system & in line with the new PSIRF plan.

·Responding to complaints about the cardiac surgery service

·Representing the cardiac surgery department at inquest where appropriate

·Managing the departmental M&M list

·Tracking departmental & individual consultant outcomes and reporting to the society any variance and action plans

·Organisation, running and chairing of the departmental audit days

·(Co)Chairing the Cardiothoracic monthly quality and safety meetings

·Helping to prepare and report quarterly to the BHC Q&S meeting and ensure actions are updated monthly

·Helping to prepare and report for the quarterly risk and regulation committee

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

·To provide visionary leadership to the specialty medical workforce and senior clinical leaders.

·To assist the Clinical Director in supporting medical workforce development, contribution to service excellence and efficiency, good patient experience and professionalism

·To assist the Clinical Director in providing senior leadership with respect to quality, governance and improvement throughout.

·To promote personal accountability at all levels, inspiring all staff to strive for continuous improvements in the services provided.

·To seek out concerns about clinical quality, patient safety, or patient experience, ensuring that clinical teams are supported to address these within the Being Open framework.

·To work as a member of an effective senior team to develop clinical leaders at every level.

·To act as a good employer, including active staff engagement and two-way dialogue with staff
