Senior Clinical/Counselling Psychologist

Maidstone, United Kingdom Kent and Medway NHS & Social Care Partnership Trust Full time

Job overview

We are really excited to be looking for a full time, band 7 clinical Speech and Language Therapist to be part of our established forensic community team. This is a brand-new post which will primarily focus on the support of forensic community patients who are Autistic.

Part of a pioneering programme funded by NHS England, the team supports forensic service users in the community instead of in secure hospitals. This can improve quality of life and reduce inequality, and allows hospital care costs to be reinvested into community services. Other teams in the programme have spoken of having a “genuine impact on service users’ lives”, and the ability to “instil hope” and “witness real life changes”.

This role has been developed in response to the increased numbers of offenders with Autism on our treatment pathway. The main aspect of the role is to assist the FOLS team in developing their knowledge and skills in working with people with autism, and making reasonable adjustments to account for the wide ranging and complex needs of this population. There will also be the opportunity to complete assessments and work therapeutically with people with Autism, and develop new ways of working within the organisation. Knowledge and experience of working with people with Autism is essential, as well as leadership and management experience.

Main duties of the job

This is a rare chance to be part of an established community forensic service, providing opportunities to develop your skills and your career. You will play a key role in the multi-disciplinary team, working alongside colleagues from nursing, social work, psychology, occupational therapy and medicine. You will need to be a qualified Speech and Language Therapist with experience in mental health settings, but ideally also with experience in forensic / criminal justice services or community settings.

This is a permanent, full time post at Agenda for Change band 7; with flexible working opportunities available. The team will cover Kent and out of area Kent patients.
