Job summary

NWLP Vacancy - Band 6, Biomedical Scientist Night-worker (Haematology and Blood Transfusion).

We are looking for an ambitious Biomedical Scientist night worker to join our dedicated team within North West London Pathology. Applications are sought from self-motivated individuals with experience of working out of hours.

There are two posts available; the main site for one is the Hillingdon site and for the other is the St. Marys site. We are looking for flexible individuals who are also able to provide cover at the other NWLP sites (Charing Cross, West Middlesex, Chelsea & Westminster and Hammersmith hospital sites) as required.

We are looking for substantial post-registration experience, excellent technical, interpersonal and IT skills. Your ability to communicate effectively and work independently or collaboratively will make you a perfect fit for our team.

Main duties of the job

You will be instrumental in maintaining and developing the high-quality services our laboratory provides, maintaining our quality management system, and ensuring our clinical users receive the best care possible.

As part of our team, you will have the opportunity to train the next generation of scientists, passing on your knowledge and passion for your discipline. Encouragement is be given for the development of new ideas to improve the service and quality of patient results.

NWLP Induction

The NWLP induction will run on the first Monday of each month (provided it does not fall on a bank holiday) and includes laboratory training (for relevant laboratory roles). All new staff must attend the NWLP induction during their first week with NWLP.

Person Specification

EDUCATION

Essential

Honours degree or equivalent in a biological science acceptable by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS)/ Health Professions Council (HCPC) for Registration. HCPC Registration and a clear understanding of Code of Conduct and Professional Standards of the HCPC. Hold the IBMS Specialist Diploma or equivalent in haematology/BT or 24 months proven experience post Registration in haematology/BT. Actively involved in Continuing Professional Development.

SKILLS/ABILITIES

Essential

Practical analytical skills in Haematology and Blood Transfusion Good interpretive skills at bench level Good hand eye coordination for technically demanding procedures Competence in IT skills including, spreadsheet and database software.

EXPERIENCE

Essential

A good working knowledge of specialist subject in relevant discipline Use of Pathology computer systems

Desirable

Previous experience in a large busy Haem/BT laboratory
