We are looking for a Design Engineer to develop designs, specifications and proposals to meet customer requirements.

We are looking for a Design Engineer to drive sales growth by offering technical help and advice to customers in order to find the right resolution to their requirements, developing clear and accurate designs, specifications and proposals in order to sell the companies full portfolio of standard or bespoke drainage systems to be used in construction projects.

Main Tasks

  • Provide technical product support and installation advice to both customers and the internal commercial teams.
  • Generate new sales opportunities by helping customers find the right solutions to meet their requirements.
  • Create and provide clear and accurate drawings, designs, specifications, and costs to support the commercial process.
  • Review customer specifications and drawings for sales opportunities (Take offs)
  • Accurate creation and control of both commercial and technical documentation to company standards and procedures
  • Create and maintain accurate CRM data (MS Dynamics 365)
  • Generate Technical sales handover documentation in preparation for orders.
  • Manage customer expectations by providing clear advice and delivery to agreed timescales.
  • To provide occasional technical support and advice on site or at customer offices as required.
  • Effectively manage and coordinate bespoke projects with short lead times from brief to manufacture.
  • To liaise and effectively communicate with internal production department for manufacturing input.
  • Liaise with internal suppliers in order to create accurate cost and lead time data.
  • Provision of accurate and up-to-date technical data for Sales & Marketing purposes.
  • Use of PDM system for technical document control.

Personal Skills & Attributes

  • Passionate about delivery excellent customer service
  • Mechanical Engineering or sheet metal design experience highly desirable.
  • Experience working in a technical sales environment desirable.
  • Proven track record of working ideally within the construction sector.
  • Able to read and interpret construction/architectural drawings and bill of quantities.
  • 2D and 3D design experience using AutoCad, Inventor or Solidworks required.
  • Experience using CRM systems such as MS Dynamics 365 preferred but not essential.
  • Computer literate (Windows proficiency including Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Strong communication, presentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Self-motivated and able to work unsupervised with the desire to achieve goals and company aspirations.
  • Driven to achieve results.
  • Personable, persuasive, and influential
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Full driving license required

Working hours are 34.5 hours per week, Monday to Thursday 9:00am to 5:00pm and Friday 9:00am to 4:30pm. We offer opportunity for career progression, extensive training and a competitive benefits package which includes 25 days holiday per year plus Bank Holidays, a Company Pension Scheme, annual bonus and Private Healthcare after a qualifying period.

This position will re-locate to our main site in Shefford once redevelopment is complete.
