Job summary

We are looking for thoughtful, compassionate and innovative Specialist Clinical Psychologist/ Counselling or Health Psychologist or Practitioner Psychologist who can provide service wide leadership regarding children and young people with disordered eating as part of their presentation.

The post holder will work within the proposed NHS Children and Young People Gender Service (South West) within the governance structure of the service and Psychological Health Services as part of an Multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to develop, deliver and evaluate specified services provided by a range of clinicians and health professionals. Provision will include clinical services, research and quality improvement including dissemination, and training and consultation to other partner services and agencies. As well as providing services into the new clinical programme, expected to open in November 2024, the clinicians will work via Psychological Health Services to provide complex case input to other paediatric or staff support services.

Main duties of the job

To contribute to development, coordination, clinical care and leadership, to ensure the systematic provision of a psychology service to the NHS Children and Young People's Gender Service (South West) and personally provide highly specialist clinical input (direct and indirect) with regard to CYP with disordered eating and its management within NHS partnership providers. To provide training, clinical supervision and consultation as appropriate, functioning as a lead specialist in the sub area of the CYP Gender Service To undertake joint working, consultation, training and service development activities To contribute to psychological research, service evaluation and audit activity. To provide day-to-day management and professional supervision of staff employed within Psychological Health Services.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

Post qualification experience of working as a specialist practitioner clinical psychologist providing direct clinical work, psychological consultation, case management supervision and training to a range of multi-professional and multi-agency teams in the specialist area (Eating Disorders) Post qualification experience of working as a specialist practitioner clinical psychologist undertaking consultation and service development Experience working with health and social care teams either in the context of providing supervision, reflective practice or team development work Formal teaching / presentation sessions to health and other professionals Demonstrable knowledge of legislation and guidance pertaining to safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults, consent, confidentiality and standards of psychological care within relevant NICE Theoretical knowledge of psychopathology and the evidence base for the relevant treatment relevant to CYP with disordered eating Advanced knowledge of psychological assessment and clinical psychometrics including screening for common neurodevelopmental disorders

Desirable

Experience working with health and social care teams either in the context of providing supervision, reflective practice or team development work including Psychological Debriefs Formal teaching / presentation sessions to health and other professionals in the specialist area Experience of proposing and implementing service development projects within own service area. Ability to generate systemic and individual psychological formulations and triage/deliver brief interventions based on applying psychological theories and models to the complex information generated by the patient and systems as appropriate. Advanced communication skills with the ability to provide and receive highly complex and sensitive information to and from patients and their families in a developmentally and culturally appropriate manner in highly emotive situations.
