Canteen Supervisor- Edinburgh Zoo - Edinburgh

We are looking for a Canteen Supervisor in Edinburgh Zoo who will oversee daily operations of the canteen, ensuring a smooth and efficient service. This role requires hands-on experience with kitchen equipment, particularly fryers, and a passion for delivering excellent customer service. The successful candidate will lead by example, maintaining high standards of food quality, hygiene, and safety. It is a zero hour contract role. Ideal candidate will have availability to work Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of canteen staff, ensuring efficient workflow and quality service.
  • Operate and maintain kitchen equipment, including fryers, grills, and ovens.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, conducting regular inspections and implementing necessary changes.
  • Manage inventory, place orders, and ensure proper storage of food supplies.
  • Prepare and cook meals as needed, ensuring all food is presented to a high standard.
  • Train and mentor new staff members, promoting a positive and productive work environment.
  • Handle customer inquiries and complaints professionally, ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Monitor financial performance, including budgeting, sales, and cost control.

Qualifications:
  • Proven experience as a Canteen Supervisor or in a similar role within the food service industry.
  • Proficient in using kitchen equipment, particularly fryers.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety regulations in a food service environment.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • A passion for food quality and customer service.
  • Relevant culinary or food service management qualifications are a plus.
