We are looking for a Canteen Supervisor in Edinburgh Zoo who will oversee daily operations of the canteen, ensuring a smooth and efficient service. This role requires hands-on experience with kitchen equipment, particularly fryers, and a passion for delivering excellent customer service. The successful candidate will lead by example, maintaining high standards of food quality, hygiene, and safety. It is a zero hour contract role. Ideal candidate will have availability to work Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of canteen staff, ensuring efficient workflow and quality service.
- Operate and maintain kitchen equipment, including fryers, grills, and ovens.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, conducting regular inspections and implementing necessary changes.
- Manage inventory, place orders, and ensure proper storage of food supplies.
- Prepare and cook meals as needed, ensuring all food is presented to a high standard.
- Train and mentor new staff members, promoting a positive and productive work environment.
- Handle customer inquiries and complaints professionally, ensuring customer satisfaction.
- Monitor financial performance, including budgeting, sales, and cost control.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Canteen Supervisor or in a similar role within the food service industry.
- Proficient in using kitchen equipment, particularly fryers.
- Strong understanding of health and safety regulations in a food service environment.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- A passion for food quality and customer service.
- Relevant culinary or food service management qualifications are a plus.
