(Static) Orthopaedic Team

Specialist Physiotherapist

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic physiotherapist to join our dynamic Orthopaedic Physiotherapy Team which covers 123 beds in the Ortho Unit and a 24 bedded Day Surgery Unit in the Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh.

Candidates must display evidence of clinical experience of work in a wide variety of core Band 5 rotations, as well as showing a particular interest in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy and specifically experience in trauma and elective Orthopaedics. Ability to prioritise and discharge plan for a wide range of presentations is essential, as is clarity of communication and well-demonstrated organisational skills. Experience of supervision, mentorship and appraisal of other staff members / students is essential.

You will deliver physiotherapy assessments and treatments across the Royal Infirmary site’s Orthopaedic wards. Our large team currently includes band 3 to band 7 staff. There will be a requirement to participate in our weekend working rota in a 1:8 frequency. There will also be a requirement to participate weekly in our Enhanced Recovery extended hours service and Day Surgery Service until 6pm.

The range of conditions and specialities encountered, and requirement for excellence in clinical reasoning and team working in this post at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh will allow the successful candidate to gain extensive and in-depth experience as a band 6 physiotherapist.

Physiotherapy Services support staff development through appraisal processes, supervision and CPD opportunities.

This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/ record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Recruiting Board.
