Band 2 - Health Care Support Worker - Adult Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Norbury House.

Main duties of the job

To provide support, and spend therapeutic time with an allocated group of service users with mental health needs. To promote service user's recovery through the delivery of high quality, outcome measured care and evidence based interventions. To assist Registered Professionals in the implementation and evaluation of individualised care plans Regularly report and effectively communicate service users' health status and care aims in care records and verbal reports to Registered Professional Staff members and other members of the multi-disciplinary team, including while supporting section 136 assessments and ECT treatment

What is it like to be a Healthcare Support Worker within Mental Health Services at MPFT - YouTube

Norbury House is a psychiatric intensive care unit and has eleven inpatient beds for male only patients. The unit is locked and provides care to patients who have mental health difficulties, which may make it unsafe for either themselves or others, if they are assessed or treated in an open inpatient ward. We aim to provide a service, which helps patients as an individual and gives them the treatment they need to work towards their recovery

In this role you will beresponsible for the provision of planned recovery focused care working in partnership with service users. You will also work collaboratively with other Trust services to provide seamless care for service users on defined care-pathways, as well as working in partnership with agencies external to the Trust supporting service users access to services in the independent and non-statutory sector.

As an experienced Health Care Support Worker from the NHS or private sector, you'll join a team that works in close partnership with Staffordshire Police and Mental Health Services, and youll join a Trust that puts people at the heart of what we do.

This role will require you to work in shift patterns covering 24/7.

Qualifications

Essential

Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care NVQ 2 in Health and Social Care with demonstrable evidence of numeracy and literacy skills Or (equivalent GCSE's or Functional Skills) Demonstrable knowledge and experience as outlined below

Experience

Essential

Experience of working as part of a team and delivering a customer focused service.

Desirable

Experience of working with people with Mental Health needs as a member of a multi-disciplinary team Experience of being a service user or carer Experience working in a Mental Health setting non Dementia

Skills

Essential

Knowledge and awareness of issues relating to mental health, access to mental health services, and mental health promotion. Skills in literacy, written, verbal and an ability to effectively use electronic information and computer technology Skills in managing situations of high expressed emotions, and an ability to manage one's own emotional state. Ability to work independently, being self-motivated and to be able to prioritise and effectively manage a range of competing needs and pressures.
