Applications are invited from PIP 2 qualified Detective Constables and transferees for the role of Detective Constable in the Major Organised Crime, Major Investigative Enquiry Team based at Staffordshire Police within the Specialist Crime Command. Current core working pattern is Monday to Friday to hours, however, there is an expectation that applicants are prepared to be flexible to work beyond those hours if required.

The Major Investigation Department (MID) is based at headquarters (Stafford) and is responsible for major investigations across the County. Applications are invited to join the outside enquiry team within the major incident room.

The enquiry team are responsible for all aspects of major investigations. These are predominantly homicides investigations which often attract local and national media attention. Working as a team directed by the Senior Investigation Officer (SIO) and their Deputy to complete enquiries including CCTV, house to house enquiries and obtaining evidence from significant and vulnerable witnesses. You will be required to write and complete strategies for suspect and witness interviews and scene enquiries. You will be working alongside departments from the across the force and with external partners nationally and internationally. You will be responsible for preparing comprehensive reports for His Majesty’s Coroner.

You will be required to support bereaved families and witnesses through long term investigations and support them through the Court and Coronial investigations ensuring offenders are brought to justice. Officers also contribute to statutory reviews proving learning in major investigations and various crime reviews along with multi agency meetings for the management of offenders post-conviction.

Successful candidates will be the given the opportunity to train as a Family Liaison Officer and Specialist Interview Advisor and will be provided training on the Holmes system which is integral to a major incident room.

PIP2 qualified detective constables in Major & Organised Crime currently receive an additional £ annual payment, spread over 12 months, subject to annual review by the Chief constable from 1 August, following approval by the Executive Management Board to implement Targeted Variable Payments (TVP).

TVP is a national scheme open to all forces, and can be made in a small number of cases, including to retain staff where there is a critical skills gap or because of the hard-to-fill nature of the role. In addition to existing DCs currently receiving this payment, PIP 2 qualified DCs recruited from other forces into this role will also be offered a one-off payment of £ to join Staffordshire Police. 

There will be a requirement to undertake training and maintain CPD accreditation.
