West End, United Kingdom The State Hospital Full time

Team Lead – Arts Therapist

AfC Band 7 (pro rata) plus a High Secure Environmental Allowance of £1,679.10 per annum (pro rata) and a High Secure Clinical Responsibility Allowance of £4,030.01 per annum (pro rata)

Hours – 22.2

Contract Duration – Permanent

Post Details  – An exciting unique opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Team Lead Arts Therapist at the State Hospital. You will be an autonomous clinical practitioner planning and providing an Arts Therapies service within your own modality working in close collaboration with the multidisciplinary clinical team and Allied Health Professions’ (AHP) team. You will be responsible for assessment, treatment and management of a caseload of forensic patients with complex mental health needs and/or intellectual disability and associated challenging behaviours in a high secure environment.

You will oversee the Arts Therapies service directed by the Lead Allied Health Professional, provide line management and clinical supervision to the Band 6 Arts Therapists and potentially host student placements. The role will include planning and responding to the most complex patient cases.

The post will be central in supporting the Lead Allied Health Professional in the exciting work of shaping and developing the newly redesigned, Arts Therapies service as part of the larger supportive Allied Health Professions Team. We are based in a purpose built hospital located in rural Lanarkshire and are commutable from most major towns and cities. The State Hospital offers great facilities, supervision/support, CPD and development opportunities.

Experience  – You will have an MA or equivalent qualification in Arts Therapies with current HCPC registration and will have experience of working in an acute mental health setting. You will have a strong understanding of managing risk and demonstrate experience of this. You will be highly motivated and creative in your approach and be able to work independently as well as demonstrating sound leadership skills.

*Starting from 1 April 2024, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change workers in Scotland will be reduced. Full-time hours will be reduced from 37.5 to 37 hours, and part-time staff will get a pro-rata reduction in their working hours without losing any earnings. Although the State Hospital will implement this change, it may not be possible to transition fully from 1 April. Therefore, there may be some areas in the organisation where implementation may take longer. If the department cannot safely accommodate the reduced hours from 1st April, you may be required to work 37.5 hours per week (pro rata for part-time staff) until the department can meet the requirements without impacting patient safety. Of course, you will be remunerated accordingly. The State Hospital is committed to fully implementing the 37-hour working week across all areas as soon as it is safe to do so.
