Job summary

The role is a 6 month fixed term post for a Gynaecologist. The post holder should have experience in holding 'one stop' gynaecology clinics to support cancer services and 2WW clinics. The post holder will join the team of consultants providing services to a multi-ethnic and diverse local population within these boroughs.

Main duties of the job

The Gynaecological service is well supported and there is ready access to laparoscopic camera systems in all theatres.

Within the Directorates there is a policy of inter-firm referral in areas of special interest in order to offer the best possible standards of care to our patients, fostered by a high degree of collaboration between the existing Consultants. We also maintain close relationships with other Directorates, particularly Children's Services whose administrative centre is shared with Women's Health making up the Women, Children and Sexual Health Division.

Job responsibilities

a. Clinical Responsibilities

In gynaecology, you will be required to support the cancer and acute gynaecology service. Skills with procedures such as outpatient hysteroscopy, scanning, colposcopy and inpatient minor gynaecological procedures will complement the service within the department.

In our rapid access clinics we offer transvaginal ultrasound scan during the first appointment and the decision is made for same day hysteroscopic assessment. Women are given the option of having this done as an outpatient procedure or under general anaesthetic

b. Medical Education & Teaching

Participate in the supervision and training of under-graduate and post-graduate trainees.

c. Clinical Audit and Clinical Governance

Take part in clinical governance activities including risk management and clinical audits.

d. Continuing Professional Development

1. Participate in continuing professional development at local and national level

2. Implement audit and research findings as appropriate in clinical practice

3. A willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional or national levels

e. Policy, Planning and Management

1. Support the Trust to deliver quality patient care

2. Contribute to the development of clinical and organisational protocols and guidelines

3. Assist in the development of the Annual Service Plan for the Directorate and Division and participate in the strategic planning of the service

4. Comply with all Trust policies

f. South East London Maternity Network

The Trust has a well-developed partnership with South East London Maternity Network and collaborates closely with them in the delivery of local clinical services, research, education and training activities. Attendance in regional meetings is essential.

Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) (or equivalent) Must be on the GMC Specialist register or within six months of anticipated receipt at time of interview Relevant qualifications in Gynaecological Ultrasound
