Normanton, United Kingdom Outwood Grange Academies Trust Full time

Chief Executive Officer: Lee Wilson

Principal: Lisa Allott

We are an 11-16 academy, based in Normanton, Wakefield in West Yorkshire. Part of the Outwood Family since 2018, we are a welcoming and supportive academy, with a relentless determination to provide the very best education for every child. We place students at the centre of everything we do, with a focus on creating a culture of success and a positive climate for learning.

We aim to promote the highest standards of academic achievement through inspiring teaching and learning, giving young people the knowledge, skills, values and confidence to succeed in life.

We believe that learning should be both enjoyable and enriching. We are innovators with a knowledge-rich curriculum, designed to personalise learning for every student, helping them to reach their potential.

We have won numerous awards as a school and being an IQM Centre of Excellence highlights that inclusion at all levels is of paramount importance to us. We are also proud to have been awarded Silver Status by the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health Award.

Our first OFSTED judgement was Requires Improvement, with good for Leadership and Management and Curriculum and we strive on our journey towards becoming Outstanding. Help to take us to the next level.

We work hard to ensure we reduce workload on staff, allowing more time in the classroom to put our vision of students first, raising standards and transforming lives into practice.

All academies within the Outwood Family have gained the IQM Inclusive Schools Award with 18 having Centre of Excellence status and one holding Flagship status. If you share our vision, join our family.

Outwood Academy Freeston are committed to creating opportunities which enable our young people to reach their potential and as such, we are looking for an enthusiastic and talented Teaching Assistant to compliment and reinforce our teaching and learning across the academy.

We are confident that you will find this a rewarding role where you will work to support the learning of individuals who may or may not present with SEND (Including those with an Education Health Care Plan). You will build on this support and work closely with small groups of children or individuals under the direction of teaching staff. We trust that you feel passionately about supporting children irrespective of their needs or background and as such demonstrate skills that enable our children to be independent learners and overcome their barriers to learning.

It’s therefore imperative that you possess a high-level of emotional maturity and resilience and can adapt to changing priorities.

The post holder will work closely with all other members of the Inclusion team to promote high standards of inclusion and learning opportunities. As an experienced Teaching Assistant, you will be extremely well organised, IT literate and have excellent communication skills both written and verbal. It would be advantageous to be qualified to NVQ3 or equivalent and have experience of supporting students with specific needs.

When completing your application, please give due regard to the attached Job Description and Person Specification. Please note that all of the essential criteria listed on the Person Specification will be used to shortlist candidates for interview. All appointments are made in accordance with safer recruitment practices and the statutory guidance in Keeping Children Safe in Education. Online checks will be carried out on all shortlisted candidates, and all appointments are subject to an enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references and checks regarding suitability to work with children.
