In response to NHS Grampian becoming a centre for CAR-T Cell Therapy the Aberdeen and North Centre for Haematology, Oncology and Radiotherapy (ANCHOR) Unit within Aberdeen Royal Infirmary are looking to add to their Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) by welcoming a Band 7 Qualified ANP or Band 6 Trainee ANP.

Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANP) and Trainee ANPs working within ANCHOR provide scheduled and unscheduled care to patients presenting / becoming unwell in out-patient and day case treatment areas, GP referrals or emergency admissions as well as those accessing services via the Cancer Treatment Helpline. A nurse led model of care underpins the ANP service. Working collaboratively to assess and manage patients with both malignant and non-malignant conditions which may be a new diagnosis, acute toxicity or side effects of anti-cancer treatments. Liaising closely with both primary teams and on call teams.

The role of the ANP is that of an experienced clinical nurse responsible for providing direct advanced clinical care within haematology and oncology Services. The post holder will independently utilise a broad range of advanced knowledge, skills and theory in the initial management of medical and nursing needs of patients under the care of the ANCHOR Unit. A fundamental part of the ANP role is to assess, diagnose and manage the clinical needs of patients. The post is intended to provide improved outcomes for patients by improving services and quality. The post holder will be expected to exercise a high degree of personal professional autonomy and make critical judgements to satisfy the expectations and demands of the role working within the guidelines of agreed clinical protocols.

Applications are sought preferably but not exclusively from experienced nurses who have or are currently undertaking advanced practice roles within an acute care setting which would include but is not limited to, acute medicine, surgical, oncology/ haematology having extensive experience. Competence in the provision of acute care to the highest standard is required, as well as evidence of sound clinical decision making and prescribing practice, with knowledge and training equivalent to Masters level or the commitment to undertake the required pathway.

Applicants must be a Registered General Nurse with current NMC registration and provide evidence of continuing professional development. Applicants must also have excellent communication skills to support working across professional boundaries.
