About us

The role:

Esri Ireland is looking to recruit a GIS Contractor to support a Dublin-based organisation on a 12-month contract. The position is primarily home-based but will require the successful candidates to attend the customer’s offices regularly. The successful candidates are required to carry out core GIS tasks such as data preparation, data collection, data analysis and output. Where applicable, responsibilities may include liaising with external organisations to ensure effective import and export of information.

Minimum Requirements

A minimum of 3 years of GIS Experience and 2 years of industry experience working with Esri technology is required A 3rd-level qualification e.g., degree/HND or equivalent in a subject which included a significant element of GIS is desirable.

Desired experience includes:

A thorough understanding of ArcGIS technology including ArcGIS for Server, ArcGIS Online, Portal for ArcGIS and ArcGIS Pro at current revision levels.  Experience in the configuration and deployment of GIS software, in particular the Esri product suite. General application of GIS technology and data.  Cartography and map representation.  Design, implementation, test and commissioning of Web Services using Esri ArcGIS Server, Portal for ArcGIS and ArcGIS online.  Expertise in current best practice in data management and analysis OGC/Open services and standards  Knowledge of and use of Virtual Machines/Servers. Knowledge and experience of relational database products and their application to GIS solutions. Implementation of spatial databases using GeoDatabase schema methods.  Setting up working projects with the Framework Client’s staff.  Encouraging the use and integration of GIS in daily work practices.  Skills transfer and training.  On-site problem-solving and development.  A clear understanding of the requirements of the EU INSPIRE Directive reporting.  Experience with completing tasks to achieve time, cost and quality targets

In addition to these core skills and characteristics, the ideal resources will have additional, demonstrable, capabilities, both academic and technological, across a range of areas depending on the specifics of a particular project.

The following skills and capabilities would be an advantage:

Experience with a national wildlife service organisation and biodiversity spatial data products and reference sources (including terrestrial and marine habitats and species surveys and site designations), with a preference for experience with the NPWS and Irish biodiversity products.  Experience with biodiversity or wider environmental spatial analysis methods.  Experience in GIS requirements gathering and solutions development for ecological projects, with a preference for experience in the Irish environment (or an equivalent ecosphere).  Experience in data collection workflows using the Esri mobile GIS suite and Web app viewers.  Experience in ecological spatial data validation.  An undergraduate or postgraduate qualification in a natural science subject such as zoology, botany, or environmental sciences.  Fluency in spoken and written English (A minimum of CEFR C1 level).  Experience in Recorder 6 software (SQL Server species database application), including data entry, back-ups, species checklists, synonymies, dictionaries and rucksack updates.

Location 

This is a hybrid position. The role is primarily remote based with a requirement for attendance at the client’s Dublin office when requested.
