The Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust, Planned Care Centre within Queen Mary’s Hospital, Sidcup is an exciting and challenging Elective Surgical unit, supporting London and Kent NHS Waiting list requirements.

The Theatre team at Queen Mary’s Hospital, is extremely proud of their unit, and over the years the team have been instrumental in the development of the new Dartford & Gravesham Planned Care Centre.

The candidate should have clinical management experience. This role requires excellent leadership and communication skills. The candidate should be a proactive and confident practitioner who is able to commit to this dynamic role and navigate the changing demands of today’s healthcare environment.

The post-holder must have anaesthetic experience at senior level as this role will include being the departmental clinical lead for anaesthetics. Additionally, as clinical lead for anaesthetics the post holder is required to undertake staff /team management duties.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will work in Theatres and Recovery, and has accountability for the assessment and development of programmes of care, including monitoring standards of care. In addition the post holder carries responsibility for deployment, supervision and teaching of multidisciplinary clinical staff and learners.

To act as a positive role model to junior staff members, providing strong and effective leadership for all registered and non-registered health care workers.

To work with the Matron, operational managers and the Governance Leads to ensure high quality care for service users, in particular be accountable for the theatre staff development and professional standards.

Responsible for designated financial resources controls and participate and assist the theatre Matron in maintaining other theatre pay and non-pay resources, ensuring that it remains within budget.

As a member of the multidisciplinary team to participate in the delivery of perioperative patient care, providing expert, holistic care of a high standard to both patients and their relatives whilst they are under the care of Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust.

To take direct managerial responsibility for the clinical area in the absence of or as delegated by the Departmental Matron.

To assist in the leadership and development of an identified group of practitioners within the Unit complement.

To act as a clinical resource within the Unit and across the Division as necessary.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To provide guidance, support and professional leadership to all nursing staff within the Trust promoting confidence in the Critical Care Service.

To provide a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.

To initiate, implement and evaluate quality control methods as appropriate to the theatre department.

To manage Control of Infection in Theatres with support from the Senior Infection Control Nurse, reporting any problems affecting the unit.

To ensure all the staff within the Theatre departments are aware of their 
responsibility in the prevention and control of infection, and wear the necessary protective clothing during Theatre procedures.

Registered Nurse/ODP Level Evidence of Continued Professional Development Mentorship qualification Evidence of equivalent knowledge and experience to Masters Level. Specialist nursing / ODP qualification in Theatres. Leadership qualification Minimum of 3 years Anaesthetic experience at senior level.

Educated to Masters level or working towards a master qualification
