We are looking for someone who is confident supporting senior stakeholders and has experience negotiating commercial contracts . You’ll be able to utilise your knowledge and skills to influence and lead, engaging a wide range of stakeholders with your strong written and verbal communication skills. You will be supported within the team by a contract and pensions specialist to support your development in role.

The role

You will have:

Responsibility for commercial and client contracts relating to workplace pensions business, ensuring they align with legal requirements and protect the interests of the business, including advising on data protection. The chance to influence the direction of one of the fastest growing Master Trusts in the market; working closely with experienced colleagues, all working together to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the Scottish Widows Master Trust; have the opportunity to support new business tenders and responses for the dynamic and expanding workplace business and provide input to the delivery of complex projects using your legal knowledge. Work with senior management and executives across IP&I and with the pensions legal team on leading all legal work associated with our pensions business. Be expected to proactively challenge, advise and influence senior management and executives on legal issues associated with the pensions business to promote the interests of LBG. Provide insightful and innovative high quality legal advice and guidance specifically to the workplace pensions business and wider business. Manage and challenge external legal advisers to provide appropriate legal support. Guide business colleagues on Legal Risk Management using the relevant risk management policy framework. Report and escalate on legal or governance issues, inputting to recommended solutions as required. Support the Head of Pensions Legal in discharging his responsibilities. Utilise your knowledge and expertise and networks to provide thought leadership on legal trends and developments both internally and externally and look for opportunities to champion change, inclusion, and improvement. You'll be fully supported in your new role with guidance and training as you learn about the work that we do and the businesses that we support.

What you’ll have:

You will be:

A qualified solicitor, barrister (or equivalent) with recent and relevant commercial contracts experience. A collaborative team player, willing to roll their sleeves up when it’s needed, who can also work independently. An effective and confident influencer with excellent negotiation skills. Someone with strong interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to articulate complex messages with clarity and ease.

It would be an advantage but not essential if you have:

Data protection experience. Knowledge and understanding of the legal, regulatory, and statutory requirements relating to pensions gained either in practice or industry. Knowledge of the design, operation and governance of master trusts including the master trust authorisation framework and dealing with TPR and bulk transfers into master trusts.
