Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Sunderland South Tyneside Children and Young Peoples Service for someone who is keen to develop skills in psychological therapy. We are recruiting a Band 6 Community Practitioner to undertake training to complete the Post-Graduate Diploma in Evidence Based Psychological Therapies (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy). The course is a full-time course for the first year of the post starting in January 2025 at Northumbria University. You will acquire the skills and abilities to be a competent and effective CBT Practitioner. On completion of this training the post holder will work in the service using the skills learned and receive supervision from a suitably qualified CBT therapist.

Our service is fully integrated and provides specialist mental health assessment and intervention for children and young people with complex mental health problems, including those with a learning disability. The multi-disciplinary team comprises of a highly skilled and experienced workforce.

To be responsible for the assessment and management of casework of service users who have substantial and complex mental health needs.

To provide evidence based interventions following a full assessment as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

To undertake duties in supporting families and partner agencies, and attend multi-agency meetings to safeguard children.

Main duties of the job

We deliver a wide range of evidence based assessment and interventions across different pathways: mental health, learning disability and neurodevelopmental assessment pathway. We offer many interventions to young people and their families, including evidence based psychological therapies such as CBT, EMDR, family therapy, and art therapy.

Collaborative working with partner agencies and working as part of a multi-disciplinary team is an integral aspect of this post.

We offer opportunities to develop skills and expertise, through training including CYPS specific training via our internal training programme and supervision.

The service operates within the South business unit of CNTW and works across the geographical area of Sunderland and South Tyneside.

The team functions as an MDT where we work collaboratively with nurses, support workers, occupational therapists, social workers, psychology and psychiatry.

Person Specification

Education and Qualification

Essential

Professional Qualification and current Professional Registration as, a First Level Registered Nurse (RNMH, RMN, RNLD) or equivalent as an AHP, Social Worker or Clinical Psychologist Mentor Training. Evidence of post-registration training in clinical/ psychological interventions / skills relevant to the post. Proven track record of post registration clinical experience relevant to the post. Training in CPA (Care Programme Approach), Safeguarding, MAPPA (Multi Agency Panel for the Protection of Vulnerable Adults) and Child Protection. Up-to-date knowledge/experience of relevant legislation.

Desirable

Experience of working within a community team Experience working with children and young people Evidence of post-registration training in clinical/ psychological interventions / skills relevant to the post.

Knowledge and Experience

12 to 24 month band 5 qualified nurse experience dependent upon service need. Awareness and understanding of professional accountability, NMC standards and other local and national initiatives.
