Four Trainee Health Visiting posts are available within Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) with a subsequent Health Visiting post on successful completion of the course in Glasgow City HSCP.

We are continuing the recruitment of staff to undertake the Post Graduate Diploma - Specialist Community Public Health Nursing - Health Visiting Programme. This will involve a full-time commitment from successful candidates to undertake academic study at Glasgow Caledonian University and in practice placement within Glasgow City HSCP.

SCPHN Health Visiting Programme

We are recruiting students to commence the program full time in January 2025. This is an exciting opportunity for anyone keen to pursue a career in Health Visiting and to improve outcomes for children and families.

Applications are invited from nurses and midwives – In addition to a first level degree you must have evidence of recent CPD study at SHE Level 10 (Hons) / Level 11 (MSc) and leadership development or an advanced CV that demonstrates and can evidence advanced practice skills. You are expected to have relevant experience in your current field and demonstrate transferrable skills to undertake this Band 7 role.

In addition, current NMC Registration is essential.

On appointment to the programme, within NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde, the successful applicants will be trainee Health Visitors during the course, (trainee Health Visitors will be paid at their current banding) progressing to a substantive Health Visiting post, Band 7, on successful completion of the programme and registration on Part 3 NMC Register.

Trainees will be recruited to Glasgow City HSCP area and will undertake their clinical training in that area, supported by a Supervisor and Assessor in the HSCP Health Visiting Team. Trainees will complete consolidation in their HSCP and take up a graduate Health Visiting Post in their employing HSCP area. It is extremely important that applicants consider travel commitments in relation to working in Glasgow city.

Successful graduates will complete a period of preceptorship in their first post as part of NMC requirements. They are therefore expected to remain in this post for at least one year after graduation.

This will outline in no more 500 words your: -

Motivation and rationale for undertaking the programme to become a SCPHN Health Visitor. Your understanding of the Health Visitor role and the transferrable knowledge, skills and experience you have which are suitable for this role. This will include leadership competencies required to manage a caseload and improve outcomes for children.

You should discuss your application with your current line manager and please ensure that one of the two work references requested is your current line manager.

You must be free to take up this on 27th January 2025.

You will be recruited to Glasgow City HSCP.

You must demonstrate ongoing academic and clinical practice progress throughout the course and complete the one year SCPHN program by January 2026.

Trainees follow University calendar for all holidays during the course and cannot take leave out with this. This is to meet NMC - 52 week training requirement.

Normal NHS leave entitlement is suspended for year of training.
