The Community Engagement and Networks Manager post will work as part of a dynamic regional team in delivering an effective service, supporting managers and staff to deliver community engagement activity. The role will work closely with the Community Engagement and Vaccine/Screening Equity Lead post in supporting sustainable community engagement, building effective relationships with trusted leaders and clinical voices, and ensuring that network activities and projects aimed at external and internal stakeholders are well managed and that there is a strong digital presence.

This is a fixed term role for 12 months. The role is multifaceted, requiring a candidate with a skillset that spans technical expertise alongside strategic engagement and creative capabilities. Experience of building positive relationships and effective collaboration, and on managing programmes of work is essential. 

The post will be hosted by BHRUT, but will work as part of the NHSE London region team in delivering improvements across the Capital.

Main duties of the job

As the Community Engagement and Networks Manager, the post holder will work as part of a dynamic team in delivering an effective service supporting managers and staff.

This role will aim to support the integration of the work that has been undertaken by the Legacy and Health Equity Partnership (now disbanding) and ensure that elements of that programme are brought into a business-as-usual focus, ensuing sustainable community engagement, maintaining key programmes of work, working closely with local partners to continue to close the equity gap in vaccines, screening and access to good health. 

The postholder will work with colleagues to deliver a wide range of engagement and network activities and projects aimed at external and internal stakeholders.

The post holder will support teams within NHSE and the wider system to deliver engagement activity and digital presence.

The role is multifaceted, requiring a candidate with a skillset that spans technical expertise alongside strategic engagement and creative capabilities.

The role involves developing internal and external networks based upon protected characteristics as defined by the Equality Act 2010.

 The role supports the business in driving transformation as well as value for money in planning, commissioning, and service.

 The role is designed to build a combination of subject matter expertise and technical skills to develop a strong service delivery.

Working for our organisation

We provide care for the residents of three diverse London boroughs. Most of our 7,800 permanent staff live in Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge and the majority are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. We also provide healthcare services to people in south west Essex, and specialist neurosciences services to the whole of the county.

Our services include all the major specialties of large acute hospitals and we operate from two main sites - King George Hospital in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two of the busiest emergency departments in London – more than 300,000 people visited our A&Es in 2023. We also provide outpatient services at Brentwood Community Hospital, Barking Community Hospital, Loxford Polyclinic, and Harold Wood Polyclinic.

We’re pleased to be leading the way in wait to get the treatment they need. The Elective Surgical Hub at King George Hospital is one of eight to be ; the Care Quality Commission has raised the ratings for at Queen’s and King George hospitals; and showed that the Trust was the most improved in 2023 for reducing waits for emergency care. 

We are particularly proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre; Radiotherapy Centre; Hyper Acute Stroke Unit; and dedicated breast care service at King George Hospital. We’re also part of the .

Essential criteria

Educated to Masters level or equivalent level of experience of working at a senior level in specialist area.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria

Extensive knowledge of specialist areas acquired through post graduate diploma or equivalent experience or training plus further specialist knowledge or experience to master’s level equivalent. Evidence of post qualifying and continuing professional development. Have an understanding of the background to and aims of current healthcare policy and appreciate the implications of this on engagement. Have an appreciation of the relationship between the Department of Health and individual provider and commissioning organisations. Experience of managing and motivating a team/virtual team and reviewing performance of the individuals.

Desirable criteria

Comprehensive experience of project principles techniques and tools such as Prince 2 and Managing Successful Projects. Experience of identifying and interpreting national policy. Member of relevant professional body.

Skills, Capabilities & Attributes

Essential criteria

Must be able to provide and receive highly complex, sensitive, or contentious information, negotiate with senior stakeholders on difficult and controversial issues, and present complex and sensitive information to large and influential groups.
