Financial Crime and Compliance (FC&C) department is responsible for ensuring that all financial crime and compliance risks within the Bank are identified, managed or mitigated. It establishes and maintains the Bank's regulatory communications, compliance risk management, regulatory reporting and compliance advisory.

As an Assistant Vice President – Compliance Assurance, you will be responsible to support and assist the Compliance Assurance Team to meet the regulatory requirements in respect of regulatory compliance risk controls and financial crime risk controls for Bank of China (UK) Limited and the Bank of China Limited London Branch. The Compliance Assurance Team brings together all aspects of regulatory and financial crime risk management. This is a full time permanent position

Key responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of annual Compliance Assurance Plan in line with the Compliance Assurance Methodology
  • This role is part of the team responsible for formulating an end-to-end view on the effectiveness of both the Financial Crime and Regulatory Compliance Risks within the Bank by driving the delivery of assurance work over compliance risks and controls.
  • Work collaboratively with Risk Owners, Control Owners and Risk Stewards to inform of the design adequacy and operating effectiveness of the controls within their respective area of oversight and, support as appropriate on risk identification and the approach to remediation.
  • Escalate significant control deficiencies in a timely manner.
  • Contribute to the development of annual Compliance Assurance Plan
  • Contribute to ensure that business knowledge, processes and controls are accurately and proportionately assessed against regulatory and internal compliance standards
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders responsible for the review delivery, agreeing issues and the appropriate remedial actions in a timely manner
  • Build strong relationships with all internal stakeholders, adopting a cohesive approach to the execution of tasks with minimum conflict.
  • Develop/maintain positive and professional relationships with all key internal/external stakeholders, while ensuring the independence of an assurance function.
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of UK regulations affecting the wholesale, corporate and retail banking businesses

Requirements

  • Degree educated preferably in Law, Banking or Finance
  • Banking and/or Compliance related qualification
  • Proven experience working in Internal Audit and/or Compliance Assurance environment
  • Good understanding and working knowledge of the UK AML, CTF, Sanctions, ABC, Fraud and Tax Evasion regimes, including applicable standards such as the UK Joint Money Laundering Steering Group ('JMLSG') Guidance.
  • Knowledge of the potential compliance implications in a range of situations
  • Solid Retail Banking experience
  • Logical, structured and detail focused with the ability to manage a broad portfolio of responsibilities in a timely and proactive manner
  • Solid leadership skills and team player who is willing to assist others when necessary
  • Excellent English and Mandarin communication skills
