Job summary

Are you a compassionate and empathetic person? The role of the Maternity Bereavement Support Worker is to work in collaboration with the bereavement midwife and wider multidisciplinary team in order to provide a safe and holistic approach to family centred bereavement care.

This is a specialist role which will assist with the delivery of all aspects of bereavement care for families who have experienced Late Miscarriage, Medical Termination of pregnancy, Stillbirth and Neonatal Death.

Under guidance, sensitive and compassionate care will be provided to families. This care will meet individual and personal needs, respecting dignity at all times.

Following the necessary training and support, the post holder will be expected to undertake a set of defined competencies, supporting the wider midwifery team to provide clinical care and support to bereaved families.

Applicants must have completed the care certificate and have all skills and competencies for a Band 2 Maternity Care Assistant and Band 3 Maternity Support worker.

Main duties of the job

Professional

Work as an effective team member - understand the importance of team working in the delivery of high quality bereavement care.

Demonstrate excellent skills in compassionate communication with women and their families and the ability to communicate and liaise with the wider multidisciplinary team.

Ensuredueregardisgiventocustoms,valuesandspiritualbeliefsoffamilies. Demonstrate an awareness of discriminatory attitudes and challenge this behaviour to promote equality.

Must have completed the care certificate and have all skills and competencies for a Band 2 Maternity Care Assistant and Band 3 Maternity Support worker.

Clinical

Understands the importance of holistic, patient focussed care, involving the women in decisions about all aspects of theirs and their baby's care and wellbeing.

Supports the management of women's care. Performs clinical baseline observations, following a plan of care as necessary and promptly escalating any changes in the women's condition to the coordinating midwife.

Have the knowledge of the Human Tissue Authority guidance surrounding tissue storage and handling and the policies in place in the maternity department.

Consistently display sensitivity and compassion when supporting families and delivering high quality bereavement care.
