Anexciting opportunity has therefore arisen for an experienced Health CareAssistant to join the day surgery theatre team at Tetbury Hospital on aPermanent, part time basis up to 30 hours per week.
We are a busy Day Surgery Unit comprising of one operating theatre,anaesthetic room, and first and second-stage recovery areas.
The post holders prime responsibility is to assist in helping carefor patients who attend the day surgical unit. The post holder would work underthe supervision/guidance of a clinical lead, who will be either a registerednurse or a registered ODP. The post holder will be an ambassador for the Trust,delivering care in an efficient, patient focused and professional way.
Main duties of the job
The role holder should be able to demonstrate clear transferableskills valid to a health care setting, and be passionate about deliveringexcellent care.
The ideal candidate for this role will have:
Excellent communication skills.
The ability to work on their own initiate, or as part of a team.
Excellent attention to detail and ability to priority tasks.
A flexible, positive and self-motiving attitude to work.
The following are desirable but not essential as full training will begiven:
Experience in a HCA or equivalent role.
NVQ 2 or 3 in care or a relevant subject and/or equivalentexperience.
Established skills in: Phlebotomy, ECG observation, taking patientsamples and taking patients observations.
We can offer flexible hours up to hours per week, with an hourlypay rate of £ Per hour. This role is a Grade O (NHS Band 2 equivalent).The Hospital offers staff benefits which include pension scheme (continuationin the NHS pension is possible subject to pension rules) and a startingfull-time holiday entitlement of 25 days holiday (plus Bank holidays) pro-rata.Tetbury Hospital is keen to support professional development and offers asupportive friendly working environment in a unique setting.

Job description
Job responsibilities
The post holders prime responsibility is to assist staff in helping care for patients who attend the day surgical unit or outpatient services. The post holder would work under the supervision/guidance of a clinical lead, who will be either a registered nurse or a registered ODP.
The post holder will be an ambassador for the Trust, delivering care in an efficient, patient focused and professional way.
Tetbury Hospital has a generic out patient department, which delivers services across seventeen different medical and surgical specialities. The clinics are consultant led, and the HCA are required to work across these specialities.
Principle Duties:
Greet patients and their relatives / carers as they attend for their Outpatient appointment / procedure, and familiarise them with the environment
To assist nursing staff within the day surgical unit or outpatient services.
To assist nursing staff and the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) in the assessment process by contributing to developing a picture of patients' needs.
To assist in the delivery of care as identified in the patient's care plan. At all times reporting observations on progress or deterioration to the person in charge.
To undertake care in accordance with the standards of care set out in the Fundamentals of Care.
To develop skills and experience at carrying out delegated duties in respect of the physical and psychological needs of the patient under the supervision of the registered nurse/ODP in charge.

Experience of participation within a team in care monitoring, audit and evaluation fundamentals of care. Able to undertake and accurately chart simple observations: Temperature. Pulse. Respiration. Blood pressure. Blood glucose monitoring. Fluid input/output monitoring. Bowel motions. Dietary intake. Able to undertake ECG recordings. Able to take patient samples: Urine. Faeces. Blood. MRSA swabs.
Flexibility

Ability to provide support and cover for periods of annual leave and sickness.
Qualifications
Essential
Good Basic Education. Able to demonstrate clear transferable skills valid to the health care setting. NVQ2 or relevant experience. Willing to work towards NVQ level 3, or equivalent.
Desirable
NVQ level 3 in Health Care, or equivalent. ECDL. Phlebotomy.
Communication Skills
Essential
Can verbalise a caring attitude. Clear communication skills both oral and written. Note patient progress in the nursing care evaluation. Participation in meetings.

Can demonstrate an understanding of Health and Safety issues. Ability to manage stressful situations in self. Confident is assisting Qualified Nurses / ODPs and consultants to prepare and support patients undergoing surgery whilst maintaining privacy and dignity at all times.
