Swansea Bay University Health Board is offering an opportunity for a wte Band 6 Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join a well-established Community Learning Disability Team. The learning disability service is regional, and this post will be based in the Cardiff and Vale Team. You will work with adults with learning disabilities who have a range of highly complex communication needs and/or eating, drinking, or swallowing difficulties. Post basic dysphagia competencies are essential for this post. You will be expected to deliver a service into various settings including people's homes across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. We are a friendly, proactive, and supportive multi-disciplinary team offering opportunities to influence and develop new and innovative projects enhancing the evidence base for Speech and Language Therapy.

Main duties of the job

You will be supported by the Clinical Lead Speech and Language Therapist and the other SLTs and Communication Development Officers in the team. You will have regular opportunities to collaborate with other SLTs across the Swansea Bay Adult Learning Disabilities service as well as working alongside S&LT colleagues in paediatrics and adult acute services. A key focus for the postholder will be the continuing development and maintenance of the Inclusive Communication Initiative for which the department has a comprehensive training package and support system. There will be a strong emphasis on person-centered planning and co- production as you deliver the service. An established supervision and support network is in place across the SLT team and there is a commitment within the team to provide student placements. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable, but not essential. Visits and contact with the Clinical Lead SLTs to discuss the role and understand the service are encouraged and very welcome whenever possible.

Recognised SLT degree or equivalent Registered member of RCSLT and HCPC Completion of postgraduate specialist courses - Dysphagia

Assessment and management of adults with severe and complex disabilities Support and mentor less experienced SLT's, students and assistants Use and interpretation of assessments relevant for specialist caseload Experience and knowledge of use of AAC Planning and delivery of clinical audit Experience and implementation of a range of specialist treatment options for individuals and groups Training or teaching of SLTS, other professionals, medical staff and assistants Ability to plan, prioritise and manage specialist caseload without direct supervision
