Bedford, United Kingdom Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a driven pharmacist to lead on the provision of clinical pharmacy services to the 12 bed critical care unit, recovery units and operating theatres at our Bedford Hospital site, which treats a diverse range of medical and surgical patients requiring multiorgan support. You will also be one of our lead pharmacists contributing to the running of our clinical pharmacy service including line-management and training responsibility.

We are looking for dynamic, organised and motivated pharmacist who has experience in a variety of clinical specialties, including critical care, and will be supported to further develop their skills further in this lead role.

You must possess the vision, energy, enthusiasm and influencing skills to deliver the safest possible care to our patients. The ability to engage, motivate and work in close collaboration with medical, nursing, pharmacy and General Manager colleagues will be essential.

As a GDE site we are a digitally advanced trust with electronic prescribing already in place for inpatient prescribing on our wards and our critical care unit. Part of your role would include supporting, and helping develop, additional digital innovations within critical care at the Trust.

We are committed to personal development and you will also have the opportunity to undertake further training and will be supported to obtain additional qualifications relevant to this role.

Main duties of the job

Work with, supervise, and be a role model for other pharmacists in order to lead, plan and develop an advanced specialist clinical pharmacy service, which is consistent with the priorities and needs of the relevant Clinical Service Line (CSL). This should be in line with local and national policies and best practice including compliance with legislation. This will ensure the safe, clinical and cost effective use of medicines and staff resources.  Be responsible for delivering the defined service KPIs and include close working with other Lead or Specialist Pharmacists.  Deliver specialist pharmaceutical care including (where applicable) non-medical prescribing in line with the agreed scope of practice, undertaking risk management and ensuring compliance with clinical guidance. Support the CSL and Pharmacy department in meeting its risk management, financial management and clinical governance responsibilities around the use of medicines.  Lead and develop clinical pharmacy audit and practice research within the critical care. To take an active part in projects to support patient safety. Undertake clinical supervision of junior pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, pharmacy assistants and pre-registration pharmacists. Act as a professional role model to all clinical pharmacy staff, actively demonstrating integrity, ownership and leadership in all aspects of the role. Be a source of specialist advice for critical care for other pharmacists and other healthcare professionals.
