Outwood Academy Adwick are seeking a Temporary MFL Teacher (M1-U3) to cover maternity leave from September 2024 until the return of the post holder. This role will be based initially as a maternity cover position at Outwood Academy Adwick from 1 September 2024 and once this interim position comes to an end you will be offered a permanent base either at Outwood Academy Adwick or one of our neighbouring Outwood academies.

We are an 11-18 academy based just north of the large, friendly, South Yorkshire town of Doncaster. 

We have been a member of the Outwood Family since 2009, and in our 2023 Ofsted inspection the academy was graded Good in all categories. The inspection noted ‘the school has a supportive and caring culture. Staff build arm and friendly relationships with pupils. Pupils achieve their full potential. Staff are proud to work at the school’.

We offer a holistic education that makes learning stimulating, engaging and enjoyable for every student.

The inspectors were equally complimentary about our sixth form provision, with a wide range of courses on offer; including A Levels, vocational qualifications and T-levels.

We have also won numerous awards as a school and we have been accredited with the prestigious IQM Award, in addition to being an IQM Centre of Excellence for 3 years, which highlights that inclusion at all levels is of paramount importance to us. We are also proud to have been awarded Silver Status by the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health Award.

We work hard to ensure we reduce workload on staff, allowing more time in the classroom to put our vision of students first, raising standards and transforming lives into practice. 

All academies within the Outwood Family have gained the IQM Inclusive Schools Award with 18 having Centre of Excellence status and one holding Flagship status.

We are a relatively small department of 3 staff, all full time. We offer Spanish and French from KS3 to KS5, with all teachers offering both languages to at least KS3. All Year 7 students study 2 languages and then pick one or both at the end of Year 7. We hope to grow a cohort of dual linguists to be future A level and University language students - imagine 

Languages are valued by SLT and the school community and the importance of being a world citizen is promoted in Open Evenings and Assemblies. 

All teaching rooms are well resourced with an interactive whiteboard and a visualiser. We subscribe to Quizlet which is used as a vocabulary learning platform outside of school, primarily for KS4. This is also used to set weekly vocabulary learning homework for GCSE classes to support in class learning. Further to this, we run weekly enrichment sessions after school, . a KS3 Language Club and intervention sessions for KS4. We also organise trips abroad, with our next one to Barcelona taking place in Easter 2024 for year 9 and 10 students.

The successful candidate will offer both French and Spanish at KS3 and at least one of them to KS4, with the opportunity to teach A-Level in our shared 6th form with our sister school, Outwood Academy Danum. You will need to be a team player with a desire to have a positive impact on the life of young people as well as a passion for languages.
