£23,887.50 per annum (pro rata) depending on experience

This role will enable you to provide general maintenance and support within the facilities function and to other functions within the hospital.

As a Maintenance Porter at our Haywards Heath Hospital, you'll need to be a good communicator, as this role involves working in a busy hospital environment around our patients. It's also essential that you're happy to undergo our Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks, as part of your application.

As a Maintenance Porter, you will:

  • Carry out decorating and minor repairs to the building fabric to a high standard

  • Maintain a pleasant and functional environment through garden and outdoor duties

  • Collect and dispose of clinical waste in accordance with policies and procedures

  • Set up conference rooms and assist in office moves, as requested

  • Carry out parking patrols, when necessary and as directed

  • Deliver stock accurately and promptly to various departments around the hospital

  • Be comfortable with a physical role which can involve lifting heavy equipment

  • Check and report on deliveries; quickly reporting stock issues to supervisor

  • Store stock correctly, following the correct procedure

  • When necessary, to receipt the delivery of, handling, storage and renewal of medical gas cylinders in line with health & safety guidelines

  • Ensure any health and safety concerns are immediately reported to your manager

  • Provide security support for the building and grounds as directed by line manager.

  • Complete any paperwork required, correctly and on-time

  • Comply with all relevant data protection, security and health and safety guidelines

  • Follow procedure as set out in the fire policy to support any fire evacuations

To be successful as a Maintenance Porter, you will:

  • Present a friendly, approachable, positive and professional image of the organisation,

  • Take responsibility for all queries raised, to recognise, and take the appropriate action to deal with any issues which may interfere with customer satisfaction

  • Look for ways to improve customer service.

  • Communicate calmly, politely and tactfully with team members and customers at all times, and to treat everyone with dignity and respect

  • Proactively seek feedback on own skills and development needs

  • Demonstrate basic writing skills and can talk clearly face to face and on the telephone

  • Record, store and use information properly and accurately

  • Provide information which is accurate, timely and easy to understand

  • Listen well to others, making sure self and others understand, and respond appropriately.

  • Demonstrate high degree of integrity and honesty

  • Demonstrate an effective organised approach to work

  • Follow all policies and procedures related to work area.

  • Ensure always work to high standards, and identify ways to improve the way tasks are done and resources used
