Job summary

MallingHealth recognise the General Practitioner as a core role within our workingteams. This post requires the holder to have an excellent understanding of andidentification with the ethos of the Practice and to demonstrate this in their professionalbehaviour and their dealings with the public. The post holder is directlyresponsible to the Practice Manager for all organisational and administrativeissues and the Partners for all clinical issues. The post-holder will providepersonal medical services, managing a caseload and deal with a wide range ofhealth needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of carefor all registered and temporary patients.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Responsibilities : -

Inaccordance with the Practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will makehim/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties including surgeryconsultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home,checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork,reports and correspondence in a timely fashion.

Makingprofessional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whetherself-referred or referred from other health care workers within theorganisation.

Assessingthe health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosedproblems.

Screeningpatients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.

Inconsultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease managementprotocols, developing care plans for health.

Admittingor discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other careproviders as appropriate.

Recordingclear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.

Collectingdata for audit purposes and complying with QOF requirements.

Compilingand issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoidinghand-written prescriptions whenever possible).

Prescribingin accordance with the Practice prescribing formulary (or generically) wheneverthis is clinically appropriate

Ingeneral, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal dutiesand responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

Meetings: -

It will be necessary to attend and contributeto various Practice meetings as requested. The only reason for not attendingwill be annual, study or sick leave.

Confidentiality: -

In the course of seeking treatment, patients entrust us with, orallow us to gather, sensitive information in relation to their health and othermatters. They do so in confidence andhave the right to expect that staff will respect their privacy and actappropriately.

In the performance of the duties outlined in this JobDescription, the post-holder may have access to confidential informationrelating to patients and their carers, Practice staff and other healthcareworkers. They may also have access toinformation relating to the Practice as a business organisation. All suchinformation from any source is to be regarded as strictly confidential.

Information relating to patients, carers, colleagues, otherhealthcare workers or the business of the Practice may only be divulged toauthorised persons in accordance with the Practice policies and proceduresrelating to confidentiality and the protection of personal and sensitive data.

Using personal securitysystems within the workplace according to Practice guidelines.

Making effective useof training to update knowledge and skills.

Using appropriateinfection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way andfree from hazards.

Reporting potentialrisks identified

Liaison: -

Aswell as the nursing team there is a need to work closely with all colleagues toensure the smooth running of the practice, reporting any problems encounteredto the relevant person and ensuring everyone is aware of the different roleswithin the nursing team

Thereis also the need to establish and maintain good liaison with other surgeriesand agencies including secondary care.
