About the role

We are looking for people who would like to support our Wiltshire Mental Health Inclusion Service as Peer Support Volunteers. You will be based at one of 10 happy cafes we have located across Wiltshire. Ideally, you will be able to commit 6 hours per month to volunteering.

Peer support volunteers are an essential part of making our happy cafes a warm, safe and welcoming environment. Peer volunteering is a great opportunity for those that have lived mental health experience or have used mental health services and would like to give back and support those who are currently using our service.

You will receive training and regular supervision to ensure you feel confident in your role. You can read more about the benefits of volunteering on the full advert on our website.

About the service

Wiltshire Mental Health Inclusion Service team is dedicated to delivering a high-quality service that focuses on supporting individuals to achieve goals. The aim is to improve the lives and support independence for those living with a mental illness. The team will engage with other local providers to ensure a clear and seamless pathway for those that require support from multiple providers.

What you will be doing as a Peer Support Volunteer

  • Support the Inclusion Coach to run the happy café - welcoming people, setting rooms up and tidying up after.
  • Help to create a safe space where people can share as much or as little as they wish to about their experiences
  • Ensure that people feel comfortable and welcomed.

  • Ability to get along with other volunteers and staff.
  • Excellent active listening skills and the ability to build rapport.
  • Can relate to people from all backgrounds and have the ability to remain non-judgemental.
  • Understand the importance of confidentiality.
  • Reliable and punctual.
