At The Myton Hospices, we provide specialist care and support for people with life-limiting illnesses, and their loved ones, from the point of diagnosis to end of life. We are a much-loved and well supported charity, at the heart of our community. We have three hospices, a range of community services, and 25 charity shops in Coventry and Warwickshire.

We are seeking a Spiritual Care Service Lead who will be responsible for the delivery of the spiritual, pastoral and religious care of our patients, relatives, carers, staff and volunteers, from all faith / belief perspectives.

This role will be based in our Warwick Hospice but with travel to our Coventry and Rugby sites.

Main duties of the job

As part of a multidisciplinary team, as Spiritual Care Service Lead, you'll provide specialist knowledge in matters relating to spiritual and cultural beliefs, experiences and practices, particularly pertaining to specialist palliative and end of life care provision, as part of holistic care.

You'll oversee the Spiritual Care Service, supervising staff members and volunteers.

This role will support our strategy and Equity and Inclusion ambitions through collaboration and external engagement with faith leaders from various religious communities.

About you

We would love to hear from you if you have:

Leadership and management skills Advanced knowledge and experience of spiritual care in a healthcare setting Hospice / palliative care / bereavement experience Understanding of palliative care philosophy

And either:

A relevant professional qualification in healthcare chaplaincy or similar

Or:

Appropriate authorisation if you represent one of the major faith traditions

This role will require an enhanced DBS check including the adults' barred list.

As the role involves travel, you must be able to travel within Coventry and Warwickshire.

Other roles you might have experience in could include: Chaplain; Pastoral Care.

Job responsibilities

The Spiritual Care Lead is responsible for the delivery of the spiritual, pastoral and religious care of patients, carers and staff from all faith / belief perspectives and none across The Myton Hospices.

As part of the multidisciplinary team, theSpiritual Care Lead will provide specialist knowledge and expertise in mattersrelating to spiritual and cultural beliefs, experiences and practices,particularly pertaining to specialist palliative and end of life care provisionas part of holistic care.

Pastoral, Religious andSpiritual Care

Develop and implementhigh quality spiritual support for people using the services of The MytonHospices, as they come to terms with living with their own particular situations,supporting them as they find their own sense of meaning and purpose. Undertake holisticperson-centred assessment of individual pastoral and spiritual needs andsupport the exploration of issues of spirituality where required. Recognise diversity andpromote inclusivity and equity across services for people of all religions andthose with no religious beliefs. Make decisions on owninitiative about spiritual needs in crisis situations and assess individualneeds, referring on to appropriate person / service or faith group asnecessary. When required, organiseor lead the provision of religious services within The Myton Hospices. Deliver services, prayersor rituals consistent with the faith or belief of the individual patient orfamily member. Through the localcompassionate community, commit to implement initiatives, increase awareness,and offer training relevant to spiritual services across Coventry andWarwickshire. Attend multidisciplinary meetingsand contribute to multidisciplinary team discussions to ensure the individualpastoral, religious and spiritual needs of patients and families are identifiedand addressed as part of holistic care planning. Ensure good communicationand collaboration with all members of the multidisciplinary team. Keep clear and accuratepatient records in accordance with The Myton Hospices clinical record-keepingguidance. Work with themultidisciplinary team in the provision of bereavement care, including offeringadvice and information to families about funerals / memorial services and otherrelated issues and, where appropriate, to officiate funerals. Work alongsideFundraising and Marketing to support material and remembrance services. Support the provision ofspiritual care out of hours needs, establishing appropriate connections withinthe community to ensure the diverse needs of patients and families are met. Contribute toorganisational policies and procedures pertaining to best practice inpalliative and end of life care. Represent Spiritual CareService at relevant functions and events across the locality. Keep up to date withnational, regional and local developments in palliative and end of life careguidance and provision.

Management and Leadership

Lead the Spiritual Careteam to deliver the service in line with Mytons strategy and Equity andInclusion ambitions. Lead on particularprojects and operational groups as directed by the Deputy Director of Nursing. Provide line management,including professional guidance and development, to junior member(s) of the SpiritualCare team. Undertake regularperformance reviews and appraisals for staff. Develop and manage a teamof volunteers to participate in the delivery of spiritual, pastoral andreligious care within the Hospice services.

Staff and VolunteerSupport

As part of the widerHospice team offer, schedule time for staff reflection. Assess and respond tovolunteers and staffs spiritual needs (individual/collective). Be actively aware ofissues, changes and conditions which affect staff and volunteer wellbeing. Collaborate with otherrelevant departments in promoting staff and volunteer wellbeing. Contribute to thedevelopment and delivery of spiritual care awareness and bereavement trainingfor staff and volunteers.

Partnership Working

Foster close links and workcollaboratively with faith leaders in the community for the benefit ofpatients, families and carers using the services of The Myton Hospices. Work with a range ofcommunity faith and belief leaders to organise necessary rites and sacramentsas requested by individual patients and their families. Develop and maintainexcellent working relationships with colleagues within the local acute Trusts,taking a collaborative approach to delivery of spiritual services to patientsand their families as they transition from acute care into Hospice care. Provide appropriatetraining and support to others in their provision of pastoral and spiritualcare, including participation in internal and external training programmes.
