About the Role

Fressingfield Medical Centre is looking to welcome an experienced and qualified phlebotomist into our friendly and supportive GP practice, to support our nursing team. This is a part-time role for 16 hours per week, Wednesday to Friday, with flexibility to work additional hours to cover absences of colleagues. This role also offers the exciting opportunity to train to become a healthcare assistant.

Working under the direction of the lead nurse and as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, the post-holder will be responsible for performing venepuncture, as requested by the clinical team, to the entitled patient population. In addition, the phlebotomist will be expected to support the nursing team on an, as required, basis. 

The main responsibilities of the role are: Obtaining patient consent for the collection of a blood sample Performing venepuncture in accordance with practice protocols Maintaining accurate patient records on the clinical system The correct labelling, packaging and storing of samples Effective use of the specimen log, resolving any discrepancies Ensuring samples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner Maintaining an effective liaison with the laboratory staff at Ipswich Hospital Working collaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance when necessary for patient related matters. Please see the attached job description for further information. About the Candidate If you are an experienced phlebotomist looking for a new challenge, we would love to hear from you. You will have the following skills and qualifications: Relevant qualification and clinical knowledge and skills in venepuncture; Experience of working with the general public Experience of working in a healthcare setting Ability to record accurate clinical notes Excellent communication skills (written and oral) Strong IT skills Clear, polite telephone manner Polite and confident Flexible and cooperative Motivated Problem solver with the ability to process information accurately and effectively, interpreting data as required High levels of integrity and loyalty Sensitive and empathetic in distressing situations Ability to work under pressure / in stressful situations Effectively able to communicate and understand the needs of the patient Commitment to ongoing professional development Effectively utilises resources Punctual and committed to supporting the team effort Flexibility to work outside of core office hours Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check Occupational Health Clearance General Practice experience an advantage but not essential as full training will be provided.
