Job summary
The post advertised is for a Psychological Therapist or Clinical/Counselling Psychologist to provide clinical leadership in the Central At-Risk Mental State for psychosis service, alongside being an active clinician. The service offers the systematic provision of multidisciplinary, and evidence-based bio-psychosocial interventions to young people who are at risk of developing psychosis. The postholder will be the key clinical decision maker on acceptance to the service, will provide assessment and psychological therapy to complex cases, provide clinical supervision to the service and manage audit and training requirements.
The Central ARMS service aims to provide interventions as early as possible to people who are help seeking and reporting symptoms that indicate a risk of transition to psychosis. Working alongside two experienced and highly motivated Early Intervention in Psychosis teams, you will lead the ARMS service delivering the best possible practice in contemporary mental health care.
Your job purpose will be to provide specialist psychological assessment and treatment to service users and their families, while working closely with other professionals. You will also support the team by providing supervision, consultation and training. You will be an accredited practitioner in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for psychosis and have skills in other emerging interventions, including working with trauma-related difficulties.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder is responsible for leading a qualified specialist psychologically-informed service to clients in the Central ARMS locality, providing specialist psychological assessment and therapy, in addition to clinical supervision and advice to colleagues, and to other non-professional carers, on psychological aspects of assessment, formulation, care and treatment within the Central ARMS service and also the broader psychosis pathway.
The post-holder will take a lead role for specialist psychological assessment and treatments for complex presentations within the Central ARMS service, and will contribute in-depth specialist knowledge and skills drawing upon appropriate evidence-based interventions.
The post-holder is responsible for providing leadership and mentorship trust-wide to other ARMS Leads, offering specialist advice and consultation regarding aspects of best practice.
The post-holder is responsible for assessment of all individual and team training needs in relation to the Central ARMS service. They are responsible for devising, delivering and/or sourcing appropriate clinical training and ensuring that appropriate clinical supervision is in place to enable embedding of psychological skills.
The post-holder will lead on recruitment, appraisals and job planning for staff within the Central ARMS service. The post-holder will provide management supervision as required.

Demonstrate further specialist training and experience through having received a minimum of 50 hours clinical supervision of working as a clinical psychologist over a minimum of 18 months or an alternative agreed by the Psychological Services Professional Lead. Substantial post qualification experience of delivering evidence based psychological therapy training to a range of professional groups. Substantial experience of providing clinical supervision.
