Higher Level Teaching Assistant

Are you a committed and passionate Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) with a passion for supporting children with special educational needs? We are seeking skilled HLTA to work across a network of SEN schools in West Devon, providing essential support for students with diverse needs, including autism, social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) challenges, and profound learning difficulties. Key responsibilities:
- Lead small group or one-to-one sessions, supporting students’ academic, social and personal development
- Deliver tailored intervention programs, in coordination with teachers, to address each student’s unique learning goals
- Implement effective strategies to support students with a range of special educational needs
- Assist in classroom management, resource preparation and adapting lesson plans to foster an inclusive environment
- Independently lead classes in the teacher’s absence, ensuring continuity of learning and student engagement
About you:
- Qualified and experienced in SEN support, ideally with a HLTA certification or equivalent experience
- Compassionate, patient and skilled in adapting to diverse student needs
- Familiar with behaviour management strategies and creating structured, supportive learning environments
- Observant and detail-oriented, with a focus on identifying and encouraging students’ progress
- Flexible and adaptable, with a willingness to work across multiple schools as needed
