Trainee Dental Nurse Specialist – Band 5

The Dental Directorate are in a position to recruit into a Dental Nurse Specialist training Post

These posts will work across the dental directorate in varied clinical settings such as MDT, telephone and individual clinic list. 

What to expect:

18 months maternity, full time secondment.

Undertake Specialist Dental Nursing Degree, which is work based learning beginning September 2024. 

To undertake this role you will need:

To have experience as a Dental Staff Nurse within GSTT To meet the requirements for Maths and English skills at Level 2 (GCSE grades A-C or equivalent), as well as good IT skills. Have an appropriate visa which will cover the period of study and training (if not a British passport holder or holding permanent residency etc). Have excellent communication skills and be able to communicate with the MDT. Have a positive, caring and collaborative attitude, with enthusiasm and determination. Motivation to learn and study at this level.

Main duties of the job

Telephone clinics Taking impressions for study models, bite raising appliances and sleep aids Making of mouth guards  Taking clinical photographs Providing patients with blood results and phlebotomy To communicate and co-ordinate effectively with clinical staff, professional bodies and external agencies. Will be expected to dental nurse nine clinical sessions per week Liaise with Dental, Pathology, and Haematology laboratories regarding work/reports for patients. To provide oral health advice to all patients on a one to one basis and participate in relevant Oral Health promotion events. To recognize and implement the use of appropriate communication aids to patients and carer's. Provide advice and reassurance regarding patients with emergency dental problems.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Act as a role model, demonstrating high standards of care and providing clinical leadership in the care of patients within the dental hospital To provide advice and help for clinicians and dental staff providing care for patients throughout the dental directorate Ensure continuity of a high standard of evidence based Dental Nursing care throughout the Specialist Dental Nursing Service. To provide clinical support to the multidisciplinary team and professions complimentary to dentistry. Work independently and professionally accountable for all work undertaken and to practice at an advanced level of professional autonomy and accountability in line with the GDC principals of care, the Trusts values and behaviours and GSTT Trust Polices. Manage and take part in the specialist nursing rota and provide cover for colleagues in their absence. Achieve and maintain high standards of cleanliness and infection control in line with current codes of practice. Promote excellent standards by ensuring that patient’s privacy and dignity are implemented and advocating for patients at all times. Promote patient feedback and ensure that patients are given the opportunity to do so after every appointment. Undertake administrative duties where appropriate including keeping accurate information into the clinical notes records.
