Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time Physiotherapist to join the Bone Marrow Transplant team at the Churchill Hospital in Oxford. The Bone marrow Transplant Team is a multidisciplinary team providing care for patients requiring autologous, allogenic and cord transplants from the Thames Valley region. The post holder will be part of the speciality team, whose responsibility is to co-ordinate the patients and provide specialist care through pre-and post-transplant journey. This also involves close liaison with our inpatient, outpatient, ambulatory and research units.
The post is a fixed-term contract funded for 3 years.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for the development and provision of a new, highly specialist, evidence-based physiotherapy service to patients treated under the Bone marrow transplant (BMT) Team within the Haematology Department at the Churchill Hospital, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUHNHSFT). The caseload will be primarily blood cancer patients who are due to undergo or have undergone stem cell transplantation. This involves working as an integral member of both the BMT and the Haematology multidisciplinary teams to provide a flexible, prioritised service based on clinical need while working closely with the Anthony Nolan Team.

Main duties and responsibilities
Clinical
To undertake the role adhering to regulatory, professional, and organisational standards of practice. To undertake assessment, therapeutic intervention, and management of patients, including those with highly complex presentations, deploying sound clinical reasoning and skills within the scope of the role. To work with patients, their carers, and members of the MDT to form appropriate care and treatment plans utilising specialist treatment skills, knowledge of evidence-base and a variety of treatment options. To assimilate and analyse a range of information to form accurate therapy diagnoses, clinical problems, and treatment plans in a wide range of highly complex conditions. To formulate accurate prognoses and recommend best course of intervention, developing and implementing comprehensive treatment and discharge plans. To evaluate and reassess patients to progress their treatment and management plans effectively.Management
To take an active role in service development, implementing care pathways and executing changes as necessary. To effectively supervise, teach and appraise junior staff, assistants, and students to maximise their capabilities. To be responsible for competent use and maintenance reporting of equipment used as part of the role and to ensure that all staff/students and assistants attain competency prior to use.Education
To monitor the impact of the role through regular audit and data collection. Feedback results to stem cell transplant team, division, and nationally for shared learning. To complete all Statutory, mandatory, and other necessary training requirements within the required timescales. To contribute to the education of the MDT, patients, families, and carers to ensure optimal care and treatment.Research and development:
To lead and supervise clinical audit and quality improvement work aiming to improve the quality of the service and the clinical practice. To maintain clinically applied knowledge formed from contemporary science and evidence-based guidance and ensure this is integrated into the services clinical delivery by way of policy and procedure.
