Acute Liaison Nurse- Learning Disabilities

Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a Passionate Learning Disability Nurse to join our Acute Liaison Team to cover Maternity Leave on a fixed term basis for 12 months hours.
The post holder will work within Nottingham University Hospital Trust based at Queens Medical centre Nottingham but covering University hospitals including Nottingham City campus. The post holder will be operationally managed and clinically supervised by the IDD team leader from Notts healthcare NHS trust.
The post holder will provide an assessment and advisory service to all involved with supporting patients with intellectual and developmental disabilities whether attending as an in-patient, outpatient or attending the accident and emergency department.
The post holder will also where appropriate contribute to mandatory training, induction, and other forms of training provided throughout the acute hospital.
Main duties of the job
Key duties include:-
Strategic
To act as a resource for the management teams within the NUH, Specialist Services Directorate of Nottinghamshire Healthcare (Notts HC) Trust, and those involved in improving the healthcare of people with a learning disability by providing specialist knowledge of people with a learning disability. The Team will achieve this by providing a learning disability perspective when any party are developing or reviewing any of the healthcare processes that may have an impact on people with a learning disability.
Education
To deliver training and / or coaching, both formal and informal, to all relevant NUH staff so that their knowledge of learning disability is enhanced. In such a way that people with a learning disability experience the best possible experience from secondary healthcare interventions and appropriate clinical outcomes. This should increase the skills of staff when interacting with people with a learning disability. The Team will also provide an educational function to Notts HC staff and local care providers so that service users and staff can be most appropriately prepared to attend hospital.
Liaison
To work directly with individuals with a learning disability, their family carers, paid carers, other stakeholders and staff within the NUH Trust to maximise the positive experience of people with a learning disability while receiving secondary healthcare.

Job responsibilities
The Post holder will join an established Team working within NUH Hospitals.
The post holder will be based within Nottingham University Hospitals and will work with hospital based staff employed by Nottingham University Hospitals. The post holder will be employed by Nottinghamshire Healthcare. The key role is to ensure that people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are admitted to the acute hospital have equitable access to appropriate healthcare.
Offer a liaison, strategic and educational role.
Assist in the development of pathways and protocols to enable people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to have equity of access.
Provide and receive complex sensitive information in a highly emotive atmosphere.
Assist in the development of health promotion initiatives for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in partnership with service users, primary care, and public health and specialist services.
To advocate that the standards set in National Policy and Guidance is implemented in relation to the health needs of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
