Job summary

Job Purpose

An exciting opportunity for an Experienced OccupationalTherapist has arisen at QEF to make an impact on the lives of people followingacquired brain injury, incomplete spinal injury or stroke. At times throughoutthe year, you will also support a small number of clients requiring generalin-patient rehabilitation in order to support our local NHS Trusts. We alsooffer outpatients.

As part of our existing Occupational Therapy team, you willwork with our large, friendly, dynamic multi-disciplinary team, contributing tothe wider success of these services.

QEF Care and Rehabilitation Centre offersneurorehabilitation to clients after a stroke or other acquired brain injury.Our specialist multi-disciplinary team provides therapy input to those withphysical, cognitive and/or communication disabilities, which may also includemild to moderate behavioural problems.

The role will support a range of in-patients alongside theexisting teams.

Growing demandfor our services, combined with our passion for delivering the higheststandards of care and treatment, inspired the move to our new, modern Care andRehabilitation Centre in July 2020. TheCentre, especially designed for us, provides a fantastic hub of expertise andtechnology for people with a wide range of disabilities. It is located next toour head office, Leatherhead Court, in Leatherhead, Surrey.

Toprovide Occupational Therapy assessment and treatment plans which are alignedto the aspirations of the client in maximising functional independence.

Carryout access and home visit assessment and implement appropriate aids andequipment to maximise functional independence.

Toact as a key worker for clients at CRC. To support their rehabilitation, stayand discharge plan.

To hold responsibility for own caseload and beresponsible for a defined area of the service, working without directsupervision.

Supervising the band 5 occupational therapists,students and therapy support workers as required in conjunction with the seniorOTs.

Setting of clients short- and long-term goals.

Leading and assisting in splinting asappropriate.

Providing a range of occupational therapyinterventions following a thorough assessment

Providing information, based on professionaljudgements and experience to clients, families, carers and other involved agencieswith implications for future provision.

Maintaining client records and providing writtenassessments as required.

Job responsibilities

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

· To provide Occupational Therapy assessment and treatment plans which arealigned to the aspirations of the client in maximising functional independence.

· Carry out access and home visit assessment and implement appropriate aidsand equipment to maximise functional independence.

· To act as a key worker for a number of clients at CRC. To support theirrehabilation stay and discharge plan.

· Tohold responsibility for own caseload and be responsible for a defined area ofthe service, working without direct supervision.

· Towork as a member of the multi-disciplinary neuro-rehabilitation team,contributing to the planning, development and delivery of an effective andefficient service.

· Ongoingevaluation of treatment regimes in conjunction with the senior therapist.

· Settingof clients’ short- and long-term goals.

· Leadingand assisting in splinting as appropriate.

· Integratingand monitoring treatment programmes in the clients’ environment whether carriedout by therapy support worker, care and support worker staff.

· Integratingstrategies agreed on by the multi-disciplinary team into treatment management.

· Participatingin the assessment of wheelchair seating requirements for clients in conjunctionwith the Physiotherapy department ifrequired.

· Keepingabreast of developments within the profession.

· Supervisingthe band 5 occupational therapists, students and therapy support workers asrequired in conjunction with the senior OTs.

· Advisingand assisting other session staff on the correct working environment to enableclients to maximise their physical abilities, in conjunction with the seniortherapists.

· Contributingto clients’ reports for reviews and case conferences.

· Ensuringthat all equipment used is in good order and ensuring the safety of clients andstaff at all times in accordance with the Health & Safety at Work Act.

· Providinginformation, based on professional judgements and experience to clients,families, carers and other involved agencies with implications for futureprovision.

· Maintainingclient records and providing written assessments as required.

Essential

Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy Membership of Health Professionals council Evidence of relevant post graduate courses/ continual professional development Membership of BAOT/COT

Post qualification experience of working with physical disability and neurological rehabilitation Experience in working with complex physical conditions Experience in administering standardised assessments and clinical reasoning in choosing appropriate assessments including home visits Experience with manual handing Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team
