An exceptional opportunity has arisen for a Headteacher position at a new school in Durham, set to open in June 2025. This school will cater to up to 40 pupils with diverse needs, including Autism, offering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Innovative Work Environment
The school is part of a 4-Day Working Week (4DWW) trial, designed to improve work/life balance. Once the team is fully staffed, employees may benefit from working fewer days while retaining full pay, with plans to implement this within the next year.

About the Role
The Headteacher will provide strategic leadership and management to ensure outstanding educational outcomes, safety, and well-being for all pupils. Supported by a dedicated central team for areas such as finance, HR, IT, and school improvement, the Headteacher will create a high-quality learning environment, motivate staff, and drive the school’s long-term success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Achieve excellent outcomes for pupils, tailored to their individual needs and abilities.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive school environment.
  • Exceed regulatory standards set by DfE and Ofsted.
  • Inspire and lead a highly motivated staff team committed to professional development.
  • Manage the school’s commercial and strategic growth, ensuring full pupil occupancy and effective cost management.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans for continuous school improvement.

Essential Requirements

  • At least three years’ experience as a senior leader in mainstream or SEN schools.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (or equivalent).
  • Proven ability to provide clear, inspiring leadership.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of school management, including regulatory compliance, pupil outcomes, staff development, and financial planning.

Salary and Benefits

  • Salary: Up to £80,000 per annum, depending on experience, plus performance-related bonus.
  • Permanent, full-time position (37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, term-time only).
