Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, well-motivated and competent Orthoptist to join our dynamic team of 4 orthoptists, 13 ophthalmologists and 2 optometrists in a job share role. We currently have a part time post ( hours) for an advanced orthoptist in visual impairment. The post holder will be required to work alongside our current Advanced Orthoptist in Visual Impairment to further develop the role and ensure all children with visual impairment and SEN have equal access to care throughout the community. The applicant will be required to show evidence of specialist paediatric knowledge and skills as they will be required to work alongside and take the lead in the development, implementation and evaluation of multidisciplinary children's visual impairment services and the Down's Syndrome visual screening programme.

Requirements:o A degree or diploma in orthoptics and State registration with the HCPC is Master's Degree in Orthoptics or equivalent experience/study to this level is Evidence of continued professional development is essential.

Some evenings and weekends may be required on an ad-hoc basis as and when required

Main duties of the job

To provide an extended specialist role as Lead Orthoptist for Visual Impairment and Special Educational Needs (SEN) and work as an effective member of the multi-disciplinary team Advanced orthoptists for Visual Impairment and SEN will undertake a clinical leadership role and require specialist knowledge within this discipline. They will help to develop staff working within this domain. Advanced orthoptists are responsible for helping to maintain policies within the paediatric service domain with particular reference to Visual Impairment and SEN. To provide comprehensive, high quality orthoptic services as an autonomous practitioner. To undertake highly specialised assessment of patients with Visual Impairment and Special Educational Needs, involving advanced clinical and communication skills. To ensure patients with Visual Impairment and Special Educational Needs have equal access to Orthoptic care Take the lead in the teaching of School Vision Screeners and Health Visitors in Vision Testing for our screening service. Deputise, and provide clinical leadership to the Orthoptic Service, in the absence of the Head Orthoptist.

Qualifications

To be registered with Health and Care Professions Council. To possess Batchelor of Science in Orthoptics BSc(Orth) BMedSci (Orthoptics) or Diploma from British Orthoptic Council (DBO).

Experience

Advanced experience in all aspects of clinical Orthoptics Experience in assessment of adult patients with neuro-ophthalmology conditions

Skills
