South, West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust are excited to announce the expansion ofthe Reducing Restrictive Interventions team and wish to appoint a dynamic andmotivated band 6 RRPI training manager to lead on the delivery of mandatory andbespoke RRPI training packages.

As the band 6 trainingmanager you will be responsible for RRPI training related subjects includingboth theory and practical physical interventions skills ensuring these aredelivered to a high standard. The training delivered will form part of themandatory training packages and specialised in reach work into clinicalareas.

Asthe training manager you will support and promote the philosophy of ReducingRestrive Physical Interventions and practice, enhancing a culture of preventiveand proactive strategies across the Organisation.

Thepost holder will demonstrate effective leadership skills working incollaboration with the wider clinical teams offering bespoke in reach andmandatory training packages tailored to staff, service user and clinical areas.

Main duties of the job

Therole of the Reducing Restrictive Physical Intervention (RRPI) Instructor is aphysically demanding role providing training Trust wide.

Therole will include line management responsibilities of junior members of theteam.

Thepost holder will lead the RRPI agenda indesigning, implementing, and evaluating physical intervention trainingprogrammes and the delivery of said programmes using a training needs analysisto inform practice.

Thepost holder will be responsible for the effective development of the accreditedtraining is delivered to a high standard in line with the Restraint ReductionNetwork.

Thepost holder will have substantial working knowledge of contemporarydevelopments within the local, regional, and national agenda for the Reductionof Restrictive Physical Interventions

Thepostholder will support the RRPI department in representing the Trust inreducing restrictive interventions in upholding the Trust values and ethos.

Job responsibilities

KEY RESULTAREAS:

This role isa Reducing Restrictive Physical Intervention (RRPI) training manager, the postholder will be responsible for the effective design, delivery, risk assessment, implementationand evaluation of all physicalintervention training and its theory components.

Responsiblefor ensuing that RRPI training both mandatory and bespoke is in line withcurrent legislation including the Mental inpatient use of Force Act and Commonand criminal law, in addition to national guidance and local policy.

Responsible for providing inreach work to offer advise on bespoke RRPI techniques tailored to theindividual service and service user need trust wide. The post holder will berequired to ensure the techniques are risk assessed to meet the needs of theperson and evaluate and amend accordingly.

Responsible for managing theRRPI agenda alongside the RRN agenda in designing, implementing and evaluatingphysical intervention training and theory programmes for mental health andlearning disability.

Withexpertise in theory components set be Restraint Reduction Network and theexpertise on the techniques of Reducing restrictive physical interventions andleast restrictive practices, the postholder will take a lead role in the RRPIdepartment in representing the Trust in reducing restrictive physicalinterventions through therapeutic methods, both internally as well asexternally where appropriate, and upholding and promoting the Trusts valuesand ethos.

The postholder will be expected to manage the development of practice-based knowledgeand skills in this specialist area and contribute to research and audit whererequired.

To workalongside specialist advisors to inform and influence best practice withintraining linked to clinical practice feedback and will lead on qualityimprovement initiatives including culture impact and change.

To identifyareas that are working well and identify areas of improvement in delivery oftraining and within individual clinical services with evidence-basedpractice.

Responsiblefor taking a lead role to identify andimprove the quality of staff interventions using a solution focussed approachto improve staff and patient safety.

To collateand coordinate data collection in respect of mandatory national reporting.

To implementand action the requirements of local and national surveillance schemes,analysing data.

To attendrelevant meetings as directed, providing reports on the progress ofsurveillance and audit activity when requested.

To be ableto interpret data and escalate appropriately when indicated.

To ensure compliance withrelevant core standards and targets within local teams

To ensure cost effectivedelivery of personal safety training

To deliver effective trainingthat supports personal safety training plans both with the training forum andwithin the clinical area offering bespoke training packages tailored to suitthe needs of the service and or individual service users..

To support clinical teams inreducing frequency, severity and impact of violence and the use of restrictiveinterventions

To lead the department in theabsence of the Personal Safety and RRPI Lead and/or specialist advisors.

Planning and auditing of the training calendar andensuring sufficient training is planned Trust wide.

Take the lead role in completing and conductingtraining need analysis to meet the need of the organisation working closelywith learning and development and clinical areas .

To keep update to date with new physical skills andtheory packages to inform training and cascade to others.

provision: Towork within the South West Yorkshire Foundation Trust RRPI as a trainingmanager, delivering excellent levels of RRPI training, and address or report,in a timely and proactive manner, where these standards have not been met.

Working as part of a Team: The post holder will manage , mentor, monitor and support thedevelopment of skill and knowledge RRPI Instructors and lead instructor througha peer support process.

To deliver arange of training programmes on the Prevention and Management of Violence andAggression across all care services and all Trust sites.

To assistthe Specialist Advisors in promoting and delivering appropriate RRPI trainingto the Trust and local organisations as directed and ensure any trends in Datixcan be delivered in training.

To managein the development of knowledge, ideasand working practice in RRPI.

Measure and evaluate learning outcomes toinclude how learning is embedded in practice.

To undertake assessments of participants oncourses to ensure service user, staff and public safety.

Managing Self: Participate in clinicalsupervision to develop skills and knowledge of least restrictive practices andapply continuous reflection on own practice). Network with neighbouring Trustto keep update to with best evidence-based practice.

Management Supervision and Support: The post holder will be responsible for the developmentand supervision and mentoring of junior members of the team, ensuringjunior members of staff are aligned to the RRN standards, The post holder willadvise the specialist advisors and network lead of alternative RRPI techniquesusing the least restrictive ethos and trauma informed approaches.

Financial Responsibility : The post holder will be responsible forensuring that training equipment/material are replenished and in working orderthese duties may be delegated by the post holder to the junior members of theteam however the post holder will hold the responsibility. The post holder isresponsible for ensuring Trust resources are used efficiently and implement savings.

Person Specification

Training

Essential

Leadership Training Willingness to undertake nationally recognised training in reducing restrictive physical interventions RRN .

Qualifications

Essential

Degree in relevant subject or equivalent experience/knowledge in the prevention and reduction of violence and aggression in Healthcare settings. PMVA Instructor qualification removed willing to undertake Immediate Life Support or basic life support or first aid at work certificate Leadership and Management qualification or able to demonstrate competencies in leadership and management. Teaching and assessing qualification. (Cert Ed, PTTLS)

Desirable

Current UK professional registration, , registered nurse (RMN/RNLD), Allied Health Professional (Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist, Speech & Language Therapist).

Experience

Essential

EXPERIENCE Substantial experience working in mental health/learning disability setting. Substantial Experience of delivering, designing, leading RRPI/PMVA training courses. Knowledge and understanding of the legal and national legislation surrounding RRPI/PMVA related topics and how this relates into clinical practice and RRPI training. Experience of providing bespoke RRPI advise/techniques tailored to individual service users and or individual service needs. Experience in collaborative working to conduct a training need analyses. Experience in producing Training Need Analysis to inform training courses Trust wide. The Confidence in the ability to take a lead role within training. The ability to offer reasonable adjustments to course/individual need using static and dynamic risk assessments. Evidence for Provide effective leadership, development, and mentorship. Contribute to the delivery and development of the values and standards relevant to their workplace and that set by the RNN. Evidence of working as an autonomous practitioner.
