Bank Radiographers - Specialist knowledge of Mammography
The Northumbria Health care symptomatic breast service operates over three base sites, Wansbeck, North Tyneside and Hexham, 5 days per week, covering an 8- 4 working day. The successful candidate will be confident in performing all mammography views and will be able to travel to all sites throughout the week.
The successful candidate will work as part of a team of Radiographers who specialize in mammography, performing mammograms for the one stop clinic and annual review programme.
Must be able to travel and work at all sites, WGH NTGH and Hexham General. Providing mammography for the One stop service and out patient appointments.
Essential
BSc in Radiography or equivalent HPC RegistrationPost Graduate qualification in mammography or willingness to attendance of study days and short courses attendedPGc Mammography Certificate
Current Valid UK Driving Licence
Main duties of the job
Providing a mammographic service cross trust at North Tyneside Wansbeck and Hexham general hospital.
Apply specialist knowledge to carry out mammography examinations to a high standard.
To ensure that patient care and comfort are maintained to a high standard at all times.
To treat all patients with empathy to persuade, influence and encourage their cooperation in the examination.
To liaise and communicate effectively with all colleagues, patients and visitors in a professional manner, thus promoting good relations.
Apply all local instructions relating to and demonstrate an understanding of Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations (IR(ME)R) and Health and Safety legislation to ensure a safe working environment at all times.

Job responsibilities
Providing a mammographic service cross trust at North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham hospitals.
Provide a high level of patient care and empathy, whilst dealing with destressed patients.
Apply specialist knowledge to mammography lists and adapting technique to individual patients, whilst ensuring care and comfort are maintained to a high standard at all times.
To liaise and communicate effectively with all colleagues, patients and visitors in a professional manner, thus promoting good relations.
Apply all local instructions relating to and demonstrate an understanding of IR(ME)R and Health and Safety legislation to ensure a safe working environment at all times.
Continue to participate in and provide a general radiographic service.
Knowledge and understanding of Trust and department policies and procedures.
To be proficient in the use of department computer system.
Must be capable to work unsupervised and single handed when required.
Supervise Assistant Practitioners, helpers and student Radiographers and verify examinations and checking the work carried out by them.
Participation in out of hours work and on call/rotational shifts.
To liaise and communicate effectively with all colleagues, patients and visitors in a professional manner, thus promoting good relations.
Communicate with patients who may have difficulty in understanding or where English is not their first language. This will include communication with patients who have learning disabilities, mental health problems, sedated patients, distressed elderly patients, children and patients with severe injuries. Ensuring communication is delivered to patients in a sympathetic manner explaining the procedure to encourage cooperation in the examination in order to acquire images of diagnostic quality using the lowest radiation dose possible.
To use empathy with patients to obtain sensitive information.
Must be able to demonstrate the English language proficiency level required for this post.
