Job Description
Recognised electrical subject-matter lead on site, or their nominated deputy. Definition and update of electrical operating standards and procedures. Definition and implementation of agreed electrical maintenance, repair and upgrade programme. Training, approval and maintenance of electrical technician, trade, operator and maintainer accreditations and approvals within the site. Delivery of electrical supply, control, alarm and indication facilities to project, liaising with project staff to determine requirements and termination points of responsibility. Yard electrical system authority linking with utilities providers, HV maintenance providers and specialist service providers for authorisation of permits to work and isolation certificates.
Project Planning and Management: Lead and coordinate electrical projects from inception to completion, ensuring adherence to project timelines, budgets, and specifications.Develop detailed project plans, including resource allocation, material procurement, and scheduling of activities.Monitor project progress, identify potential risks or delays, and implement corrective actions as necessary to ensure project success.Implement electrical related RAMS, SSOW and LOTO.Use Enterprise Resource Planning system (IFS) and AutoCAD system to update documentation. Electrical installation, repair and maintenance: Site responsibility, or deputy, for high voltage infrastructure.Site responsibility, or deputy, for low voltage fixed electrical distribution (equipment and legislative inspections).Ensuring that electrical systems adhere to the relevant electrical safety standards and regulations. Provide support for planned and reactive maintenance with the ability to read and interpret electrical and electronic circuit diagrams and schematics.Troubleshoot, repair and/or replace defective components in motors, generators, controllers, switchboards, and varied electrical fixtures, including DC systems.Conduct themselves and oversee others in the installation, fault-finding, repair, test and upgrade of electrical systems in the yards and on client project facilities, ensuring compliance with relevant codes, standards, and regulations.Provide technical guidance and support to trade teams and subcontractors involved in installation and repair activities.Review electrical drawings, system diagrams, and other technical documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness. Quality Assurance and Testing: Develop and implement quality control procedures for electrical installation and testing processes.Conduct regular inspections and audits to verify compliance with quality standards and specifications.Coordinate and participate in appropriate electrical testing activities to verify the integrity and performance of electrical systems. Safety and Compliance: Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols, procedures, and regulations to ensure a safe working environment for all personnel involved in electrical operations.Conduct safety meetings, risk assessments, and safety audits to identify and mitigate potential hazards.Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, classification society rules, and regulatory requirements governing electrical systems in maritime applications. Team Leadership and Development: Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to a team of electricians and sub-contractorsFoster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement within the electrical department.Identify training needs and opportunities for skill development to enhance the capabilities and efficiency of the team.
Qualifications
Craft-level electrical installation qualifications with demonstrated diagnostic skills in industrial plant [Essential] HV Awareness, or willing to undertake training [Essential] HV Authorised Person trained [Desirable] Higher-level electrical technician skills, Level 4 and above [Desirable] Exceptional problem-solving abilities and attention to detail. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Strong background in the understanding of Health & Safety regulations and procedures, specific experience in applying the Electricity at Work Regulations. Understanding and able to work with Quality procedures and process Ability to guide, mentor and build a team
