Overall Position Summary andObjectives

Contractor willindependently provide support services to satisfy the overalloperational objectives of the National Cancer Institute Center forCancer Research. The primary objective is to provide services anddeliverables through performance of support services.

Min Education Masters

Certifications & Licenses

  • Ph.D. in Biology LifeSciences or a related discipline.
  • Five yearsof specialized experience plus a Bachelors degree is equivalent toa Ph.D.
  • Three years of specialized experienceplus a Masters degree is equivalent to a Ph.D.

Statement of Work Details

Supports the planning and execution of researchexperiments in the context of the laboratorys overall researchprogram.
  • Conductlaboratorybased translational research with a focus on drugdevelopment for the treatment of cancer.
  • Study cultured human and animal cell lines some of whichmay be derived from cancer tissue and analyze human and/or animaltissues with and without cancer.
  • Perform awide range of sophisticated genetic biological and biochemicalassays including but not limited to DNA transfection of cellsmonolayer and anchorageindependent growth assaysimmunoprecipitation assays agarose gel electrophoresis and in vivoand in vitro kinase assays.
  • Perform confocalimmuneconfocal microscopy of cells.
  • Initiatedesign and develop new projects or assays that can enable theCenter for Cancer Research/Laboratory of U. Rudolf Rare TumorInitiative POB NCI to fulfill its responsibilities for advance incancer research and development of cancer diagnostics cancer drugsand cancer vaccines.
Supports laboratory staff on research projectsand techniques.
  • Workwith staff on the interpretation of experiments performed byresearch scientists.
  • Serve as an authority onthe tumor biology that is being studied and the assays that arebeing performed.
  • Collaborate with NIH/NCIexpert staff to clarify needs and project objectives.
  • Work with the scientific staff to define key questionsemerging from research projects in which experimental in vitro andin vivo analysis will contribute to elucidation of impact of novelexperimental therapeutics on immune cells cancer cells and tumorsgrown in mice in general mechanisms of cell transformationidentification of molecular targets and the development ofbiomarkers/biomarker signatures with potential to guide preventiondiagnosis or treatment.
  • Perform studies thatresult in technical reports and information to advance cancerresearch.
  • Participate in special committeespanels and colloquia that meet to determine policy or plan activityin the field.
Maintainslaboratory equipment and the training of others in theiruse. Assists inmaintaining adequate space and facilities for ongoing and projectedresearch studies.Evaluates analyzes and interprets research datacommunicates results and methods in reports presentations andmanuscripts.
  • Interpretresults of initial analysis to reveal conclusions and shortcomings;identify pitfalls in the original choice of methods or experimentaldirection; redirect the study to achieve improvedresults.
  • Prepare data sets Tables and Figuresfor collaborative papers prepared for publication in peerreviewedjournals; assemble and write papers for firstauthor publication inpeerreviewed papers.
Coordinates with junior staff to modifyresearch protocols.
  • Identify the need for further investigations and/orpropose change in direction of work in light of accomplishmentsfindings and current and future mission objectives.
Presents research at nationalscientific meetings and symposia.
  • Attend seminars within the National Institute ofHealth/Center for Cancer Research/Laboratory of U. Rudloff; pursueadditional training where necessary; participate in discussions atmeetings.
  • Make oral presentations at variousconferences and seminars.
Provides interpretation of results guidance andscientific support to the management team.
  • Collaborate with scientists and statisticiansin NCI NIH and extramural research institutions as appropriate toadvance the research projects and elucidation of cancerrelateddata.
