Turbine Structural Mechanical Integrity Stress Lifing Engineer

Location: Lincoln UK, office biased hybrid model

Education: Bachelors/Masters degree either with significant Mechanical /Structural design content.

Experience: We invite interest from those with minimum 2 years work experience in Finite Element stress analysis and component life calculation, complemented by a thorough understanding of the subject theory.

A Snapshot of your day

We are looking for a proficient Stress Analysis (Mechanical Integrity) Engineer to join our Turbine Engineering function in Lincoln, UK. Siemens Energy operates a “Better Together” hybrid working model of typically 3 days in-person attendance per week to ensure effective collaboration with colleagues whilst maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

The primary objective is to carry out static/transient, linear/non-linear thermal and thermomechanical FEA (Finite Element Analysis) and dynamic analysis of Gas Turbine components ( blades & vanes, rotor, casing etc.) using commercial FEA software. This will require competence in FE model creation, analysis preparation, post-processing and understanding and interpretation of results. Component integrity and life statements will be generated in terms of HCF, LCF, TMF and Creep.

What are my responsibilities?

Interfacing with Mechanical Design, Heat Transfer and Material Science disciplines to collectively derive component life including duty based lifing.

Analysing and adapting turbine blade, vane, and casing design for new products and upgrades to meet life targets.

Root cause analysis, weighted decision analysis, design of experiments.

Specifying component and engine test requirements.

Calibration of structural models using engine test data and fleet experience.

Dissemination of information by report and presentation.

Tool chain integration and other delivery improvement initiatives.

Producing and maintaining method documents.

Testing and validation of internal and commercial code upgrades.

Monitoring and reporting achievements against technical and schedule objectives

Your Profile

Bachelors/Masters Degree with significant content of Aerospace, PowerGen, Turbomachinery or Automotive structural/mechanical design or materials science

Minimum 2 years work experience.

Knowledge of material behaviour, failure modes and testing methods under cyclic and steady conditions, particularly at high temperature.

Knowledge of component stress/dynamic analysis and lifing methods

Competent in the use of FE analysis and pre/post-processing software, particularly ABAQUS. Users of ANSYS, NX-SimCenter or RR SC03, for example, may be suitable.

Able to critique and validate own results using 1D methods hand calculations.

Able to work both independently and in a multidiscipline team with effective communication and interpersonal skills

Thorough understanding of Stress theory and a keen interest in continuous personal development in the subject.
