Main duties of the job

To support the SAS service Medicus Select Care and MHP in the Practice to manage a busy, interesting clinical caseload. The appointee will also have the opportunity to take part in leading on key disease areas (monitoring trends in treatment, staff training and prescribing) and assist in developing appropriate healthcare services for a diverse suburban patient list, including Directed Enhanced Services commissioning, patient participation and health promotion. The post-holder will be working across Medicus Health Partners sites providing patient post-holder will be working across all MSC sites providing patient care including running face to face clinics as well as overseeing other designated clinics and service reviews where necessary.

Job responsibilities

CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES :

In accordance with the Clinicalresponsibility, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/her-self available toundertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephoneconsultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing acuteand repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork, referrals andcorrespondence in a timely manner.

Making professional, autonomous decisions inrelation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from otherhealth care workers within the Practice.

Assessing the health care needs of patientswith undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.

Screening patients for disease risk factorsand early signs of illness.

In consultation with patientsand in line with current service disease management protocols, developing careplans for health.

Providing counselling andhealth education.

Admitting or discharging patients to andfrom the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate.

Recording clear and contemporaneousconsultation notes to agreed standards.

Compiling and issuing computer-generatedacute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding handwritten prescriptions wheneverpossible).

Prescribing in accordance with the Serviceprescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate.

Ensuring that all work carried out whichcarries a private fee is properly recouped and accounted for, MedicalReports, Insurance reports, Private letters to third Parties etc.

In general, the post-holderwill be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilitiesassociated with a GP working within primary care.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES WITHTHE SERVICE:

Awareness of and compliance with allrelevant Practice policies/guidelines, , prescribing, confidentiality, dataprotection, health, and safety

A commitment to life-long learning and auditto ensure evidence-based best practice.

Contributing to evaluation/audit andclinical standard setting within the Service.

Contributing to the developmentof computer-based patient records.

Contributing and overseeing of summarisingof patient records and accurate Read-Coding of patient data.

Attending training and events organised bythe Service or other agencies, where appropriate.

In addition to maintaining continuededucation through attendance at any courses and/or study days necessary toensure that professional development requirements are met, the post-holder willparticipate in any training programme implemented by the Service as part ofthis employment, such training to include:

Participation in a Service based annualindividual performance review, including taking responsibility for maintaininga record of own personal and/or professional development.

Maintaining skills and knowledge for CPD andaccreditation via the annual GP appraisal process.

Taking responsibility for own development,learning and performance and demonstrating skills and activities to others whoare undertaking similar work.
