The Lung Cancer Service is a busy and fast paced department working as part of a team you would be responsible for assisting the Lung Cancer Services Coordinators in facilitating an efficient and effective transition for patients through the lung cancer pathway. An aptitude for teamwork, attention to detail and adaptable to varying situations in this busy environment is very important.

Main duties of the job

You will be a conscientious and enthusiastic team player with excellent organisational and communication skills.

You will need to be well motivated and reliable. You will be able to understand and accurately convey verbal and written information and be able to remain calm under pressure. The ability to be able to be patient focussed is absolutely essential to this role.

The role of the Lung Cancer Services Administration Assistant will be to work under the supervision of the Lung Cancer Services Coordinators to provide administrative support ensuring that all suspected cancer referrals and patients diagnosed with cancer are managed through their pathway in an efficient and effective manner. Knowledge of cancer pathway targets would be an advantage.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To assist the MDT Coordinators with all aspects of preparing an MDT meeting (preparing complete and accurate records for discussion, gathering together relevant clinical data ensuring that results are available for meetings; tests, scans, letters etc).

To assist with post-MDT administrative duties (outcomes, follow ups, updating databases).

To assist with monitoring of patient pathways.

Acting as a point of contact for patient enquiries and outcomes either by phone (inbound/outbound calls) or letters.

Liaising with outpatient administrator re appointments and necessary important clinical information to ensure patients are seen on their pathway without delay.

To assist with adding/removing patients to the waiting lists and coordinating admissions using trust systems.

Person Specification

Training & Qualifications

Essential

5 GCSE's or equivalent C or above. Must include English. NVQ 3 or equivalent.

Experience

Essential

Administration experience. Microsoft Office systems, including outlook and excel. Understanding of patient confidentiality.

Desirable

Previous experience of working in the NHS.

Communication and relationship skills

Essential

Able to clearly convey information both written and verbally. Maintain confidentiality, sensitivity and empathy when communication with patients/colleagues. Ability to be able accurately input data.

Analytical and Judgement skills

Essential

Use own judgement to make decisions in order to solve problems/enquiries and an ability to recognise when to escalate for support. Work in line with standard operating procedures. Able to complete tasks using own initiative.

Planning and organisation skills

Essential
